Honestly I do too. I think we both like Blacc Hollywood, right? And I have Rolling Papers and a few of his tapes, but I don't take him very seriously. He's ear candy for when I'm in certain moods. In the grand scheme of things, he's not a very unique or compelling artist. Yeah, I like him in general, but he's upper bottom tier material. There's a million rappers that are roughly as talented and unique as Wiz, you know? So that's all I'm saying. Even though he didn't deserve the retaliation, and even though I like him alright, I still walked away from that tweet war liking Kanye more and if anything, liking Wiz less. It's really not fair to compare them, though. Kanye's top tier, unique as hell, virtually peerless. Sometimes when I type things that are actual words and not typos, my phone replaces the word with Kanye. That's how much I talk about Kanye. |
Oops. Not this weekend. Saturday, Feb. 13th.
|
That tweet war was funny, Wiz has been salty about Kanye for a while and used the new album title as an excuse to come at him. I'm sure Kanye doesn't give a damn about Max B and his album sounds nothing like him, Wiz knew it too. Kanye put him back in his place, that comment about his son was definitely too far though..

But it was still fucking hilarious. I laughed out loud despite myself. Way over the line, but it was perfect, especially juxtaposed with that "blessings, blessings! positve blessings!" bit. Kanye's a crazy motherfucker in many many ways, it's true. But I'm 100% in his corner. I got there because his music has hit me on a personal level almost without fail since I started listening to him. Hell, Kanye's the reason I gave Wiz a chance. I thought I had him pegged, and discovered upon closer inspection that I was way off, and I'm more open to music in general -- of all genres, not just hip-hop-- as a direct result of the payoff I got from giving him more of a chance. And yeah, it's obvious that Ye isn't referring to "wavey" (the sub-style of a sub-genre or whatever) by naming his album Waves. It seems as though the theme is actually based on, like, *waves* ... specifically light waves, but I would rule out water waves either. Wiz be trollin' for beef. Side note: Kim Kardashian > Amber Rose. In every conceivable way. And I'm not saying "kk" is my idea of a suitable mate, but damned if she isn't an all-around step up and forward from that gutter-mouthed skank. |
Something I've been thinking about lately: who (besides sir Paul) would I like to see Kanye do a totally unexpected collaboration with in the future?
Hate to sound like a thrice broken record, but I'd seriously lose my shit if he and RDJ made their peace and collaborated on some material. And Flaming Lips in Yoshimi-electro mode would make a great backing band for another sung project. Also, I totally want him to do that Bowie tribute that the Internet is trying to petition against. Can you even imagine how fucking awesome that would be? Kanye, Kendrick, HudMo and the rest of the usual players with some surprise appearances from, I don't know... whoever... doing a career spanning Bowie tribute? Balls to the wall, my friends. |
Kim was definitely an upgrade from Amber.
Speaking of unexpected collaborations.. "Chance The Rapper Wants To Start A Duo With Earl Sweatshirt" http://www.hotnewhiphop.com/chance-t...ews.19806.html Awesome! |

Wow Wiz is definitely not the "nice stoner guy" anymore. He seems hurt. |
Kevin Gates' debut lived up to my expectations and beyond!

I love everything about this. I hope he fucks Kanye up.. at least Kanye ain't a studip ganster he trying to just be "an artist" but still wouldn't mind seeing somebody pick a fight with his ass |

I like you a little bit less right now. Trying not to be "that guy" but, what can I say. Also, Kanye would beat dreads off of Wiz. Nobody's "coming for" Kanye. This is Meek Mill V. Drake shit. |

not loving this. I don't know. The banter is fine. But, hip hop live albums are just really tough to pull off. It's not clicking for me. |
Oh well.
Kim created a poll on her Twitter where she asks which title we'd like Kanye's next album to have: https://twitter.com/KimKardashian/st...53238359453696 So Help Me God is in the lead. Wondering if that means Kanye will change it once again.. |
Ye said it's gonna be a Gospel album and it was reported that Kirk Franklin was involved.. that makes me super stoked. I'm starting to think there's a chance that this album is gonna be exactly what I wanted from Kanye.. a super happy album with a lot of soul.

So Help Me God was def the best title of them.

Yeah, word. I am not sure I actually own any live hip-hop albums except for Ye's (pretty forgettable) Storytellers, and his (fairly awesome but way too LR-centric) Late Orchestration. Oh and Jay's "unplugged"... don't judge me... And some Roots shit. Live albums are super hard in rap. Yet live performances (Black Star on Chapelle?) are often memorable as hell. Wonder why that is. |

I have The Roots Come Alive and The Roots Present... neither come CLOSE to how good they sound live if you see them for real.
Kanye's Storytellers is hilarious. Jay's Unplugged is good. A nice companion to Blueprint. And The Roots are on it. It might be my fav hip hop live album. But it's still not a 10 y'know? The worst hip hop live album ever is ODB's Free To Be Dirty. Just saying. I've got a Rocky bootleg live album. It's pretty good. But like this Cole, I don't know. Something doesn't work w/ just the audio I think. To much hypemen or letting the audience finish a line. It might be nice in person, but not on tape. But I agree - there's phenomenal live performances you see on TV or youtube or whatever... Kanye & Common on Chappelle's Show... Odd Future or Kendrick on Fallon, right? But somehow the LIVE ALBUM is so hard to pull off. |

Ha! Justice is swift. Now Mr. "We comin' for you Kanye, Niggah bettah RUN!" is sitting somewhere filing a report signing autographs for the South African military police. Probably looking sad. For Kanye's part, he said: "I messed up. Children are off limits in my Twitter wars." *shrug* |
I have been to quite a few hip hop concerts. Most sucked shit due to terrible sound system/mix.
The only ones where the sound guy mixed the music properly for a hip hop show was De La Soul about 5 years back, the Roots about 7 years back, and Lupe Fiasco last year. Heavy bass, the treble was clear, the audio mix vocals were good but not too muddy or loud or buried... Nearly every other hip hop concert I ahve been to sucked shit. All you can hear is four guys rapping at the same time and a muddy mix with no actual BASS in it. I thin k it is rock guys doing sound for rappers, or maybe the rappers are just rapping through a shitty mac p[owerbook and USB stick. who knows. It SUCKS SHIT though |
Unfortunately I've never seen Kanye live, but I've seen some good rap shows. Kendrick Lamar in 2014 was probably the best. That guy is an athlete. But I've also had good experiences with Wu-Tang Clan, Ghostface solo, De la Spul, Jurassic 5, Shabazz Palaces and several others.
But often you get a stage full of dudes, half of whom you don't even know, just kinda yelling along with eachother. If you're a fan of the studio tracks it can really suck to hear them drown under shout outs and crowd calls. |

The only live hip hop i regretted not being able to go to was Dead Prez last fall, i was stuck in night class and it sold out at the door |

Yawn. Over it.
Bring on the new music. I love how the whole GOOD Fridays thing just evaporated after ONE Friday of new music. I hope he leaks that shit soon. Something tells me he won't leak it at all, though. Super curious about cover art. That notebook page better not be the goddamn cover. Seriously. |
I don't think sev will like this RS article...

I like this part: Kanye West's six-album run between 2004's The College Dropout and 2013's Yeezus is hands down the greatest, most unstoppable streak of records in hip-hop history. And while great rapper streaks are not exactly unheard of (Bay Area ambassador E-40 is set to drop his 23rd excellent album any day now), there's been absolutely nothing comparable to West's level of daring, visibility and impact. And the Beatles comparison. But yeah... it's a pretty reverent article, but it doesn't exactly fill me with joy. I would take issue with some of the author's points (Ye is not ripping off the Weeknd, and Travi$ Scott has never even had Ye's table scraps, let alone his lunch), but I see where it's coming from. Not the first time people have wondered what's left for Kanye to do, though. |
Ain't nobody triller than Scott...
