Fennesz - Mosaic (December 6)
|
This is getting ridiculous.
Bill Callahan's "Smog" - The Holy Grail: Dec. 10, 2001 Peel Session (November 22) Sharon Van Etten - Not sure exactly what's going on here; apparently a song called "Afterlife" will show up on October 23, followed (eventually) by a new album, The Attachment Theory. EDIT: Wait, The Attachment Theory is her touring band; I'm not positive on the album's title... What's with the goth shit anyway - once was enough, thank you. |
Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory (February 7)

is it time for a 2025 thread yet?
Wish Defense by FACS releases February 7, 2025 it's the last album that Steve Albini worked on .... :( |

The music's gonna be great but I do not care for the words "limited edition". I already missed out on the J Spaceman CD... |

The new The Bad Plus is great. It's obviously not the same band, but this new group has really found their sound

I've listened to this every morning for several days now. I was shocked when I first heard it. I have 9 other Necks albums, and I'm used to hypnotic, dense, uptempo works. This is shockingly quiet, spacious, and mysterious. But it slowly, gradually, creeps up on you. It lingers in your brain even when you dismiss it as a failed work upon initial listens. I now see this as genius / masterpiece. (Yes, I'm fucking back. Laughing/joking on Lightfoot's death day is pathetic, but, alas, most other forums are even worse, in my experience. I've cut my losses. I'll live with the stupid bullshit here. The good outweighs the bad. Plus, there's just 17 people here, vice 17000.) |
I searched Primal Scream - Come Ahead and found fuckall. Did I search wrong?
There's some good reviews, but also bad. I don't get the bad. This is a great album! (Has Bobby Gillespie now become Gordon Lightfoot around here?) |
The only good thing Bobby Gillespie did was imitate a drum machine for the Jesus and Mary chain.

Wrekmeister Harmonies – Flowers in The Spring (February 21)

A few years back my friend was in a shop and he saw a bloke he thought he knew from AA meetings and went up and to say hello, but the guy mouthed "just fuck off" to him. As my friend walked away he realised it was Bobby Gillespie who'd just told him to fuck off. |
15CD Roland Kayn - The Ortho Project recently arrived at my door. It is a daunting thing! It might take me years to wrap my head around this behemoth. But I love what I am hearing, even if I cannot grasp it yet.

Everybody hates BG!! "But he made 4 fantastic albums" said nobody ever. |

He looks like the type to enjoy a silk scarf. A friend of mine had a similar experience with Thom Yorke in an alley behind a venue where he was playing a DJ set. Out pops Thom from the venue exit to which my surprised pal mutters to his friend 'Thom Yorke' to which Thom tells him to fuck off. |

Swans new live album - Live Rope is monumentally insane. Leaving Meaning and The Beggar were very good albums imho, but I sensed that the ageing Gira was mellowing, and getting ready for retirement. But this 2CD 150min Motherfucker presents a ferocious, reinvigorated 70 year old Gira. (Sheesh, what's there to be angry about in 2024?) 3 tracks from recent albums are nearly unrecognizeable in reworked forms (including a 53min The Beggar!), and 3 new tracks perhaps hint at the new studio album coming soon. One thing is for certain: Swans is still a formidable, mighty beast. This live document is breathtaking. I cannot fucking wait for the new studio album.

Phil described the ending of "Co-Owner of Trees" as Diamond Sea-esque. Pretty cool album. |
Babe The Blue Ox - What About Today
This one really flew under the radar--it came out in June this year. No physical release, just a download for sale. The band still sounds fine as ever. |
Wilco - A Ghost Is Born [Deluxe 9CD or 9LP+4CD box sets] (February 7)
Meanwhile, their Hot Sun Cool Shroud EP from earlier this year will finally see the light of the laser and touch of the needle on November 29. |

If you start the 2025 thread, I'll copy-&-paste all the 2025 shit over there, 'cause I'm nice like that. So do it or die! |

The title track is an instant classic, best song of the fuckin' year. |

Not as good as the new Pixies but it's still very good. I didn't like the brass parts on Coast but they're awesome on the title track |

I know it's not cool to like the reunion Pixies albums but worship anything Kim farts out but try opening your ears |
I've had a dream about Kim Deal but I've never had a dream about Black Francis, so that should show you where my allegiance lies.

Come on. Kim's album wasn't even in my priority list until I heard that song - a solo home acoustic take on it by Jeff Tweedy, actually. Then I listened to the original and was blown away as I hadn't been in quite a while by new music. |

No, I said Severian was immortal. Also, those Craft Recordings reissues look off the freakin' charts. |
