If you guys are gonna talk about the plot of Game of Thrones, could you black it out or at least post some kind of warning? I've only seen the first 3 episodes On Demand, because I don't feel like scheduling my life around TV broadcasts.

On Demand is wonderful thing. The days of scheduled and broadcasted television are rightly numbered. Now if only HBO would post the first season of True Blood on On Demand, so those of us who are merely curious don't have to shell out for the DVD set...

Count Mecha 06.17.2011 03:07 PM

At first I was going to say that I made my comments ambiguous enough not to be spoiling for those who haven't seen the episodes yet. And I think I still somewhat am, but looking at it again, I can see how someone wouldn't agree. Sorry about that, I'll do something like that in the future. I hate to be that guy, cause that guy has spoiled me on plenty of tv shows.

Hey, I edited mine out, I really did!

I just watched the season finale of Game of Thrones (DVR - I know, ultimate geek), and I want to rant and rave about it, but now I CAN'T, so I will just say, hot naked chicks, dragons, and unbathed scruffy dark-haired bloodmongers RULE.

Now hurry the fuck up and watch the show.

But DAMN does this show have a high attrition rate. It feels like five to six MAIN or sub-main characters have already died. And this is something I love, because that makes it feel all the more real. And with the most recent death, it just shows you how far the show is willing to go. And with everyone as surprising how quickly they are offed, it never feels disappointing. Heartbreaking or upsetting maybe, but never disappointed. I never felt robbed or cheated by having the rug pulled out from under that particular character so quickly. It just feels natural, sometimes you don't get to fulfill whatever plot or character arc you were supposed to explore, feels more like real life that way. And some of the deaths are just badass, how often do you see a guy get a pot of molten gold poured on his head?

Incredible show, so pumped that it's been renewed.

I took issue with only one of the deaths, because I find the actor extremely attractive.

*****WARNING TO GENETIC KISS - DO NOT READ THIS!*****

Sean Bean is hot. They should only kill off the uglies. Just sayin'.

We should open a thread titled "FOR THOSE WHO WATCHED THE WHOLE SEASON 1 OF GAME OF THRONES".

We could talk in there.
We really could.

And maybe add "AND DON'T WANT THE REST OF THE PLOT SPOILED BY THOSE WHO READ THE BOOKS".

Coz that would not be cool in my book.

PUN!

Fucking brilliant (your idea and your pun).

I want to read the books now, but I don't want to spoil the show for myself. OH, THE DILEMMA.

Dead-Air 06.21.2011 08:33 AM

I expected to hate Matt Smith as the youngest Doctor Who ever, but damnit if he isn't actually good.

deflinus 06.21.2011 08:58 AM

I don't really watch Doctor Who. But everyone once in a while it happens that I see it on and I watch a few minutes of it. I think he's half alright, quite charismatic, seems to work.

I have this same dilemma. I really want to read the books, (I read a little preview of it on amazon or some such site, it read pretty well) and probably will, but I'm speculating on how I want to experience the story first, on tv or the books.

Obviously fans of the books will say just read the books. And I've heard some comment that the show is still extremely enjoyable with knowledge of the books in hand. Oh well, have a bunch of time till season 2 to decide.

I'm gonna start a separate thread, seems to be enough interest in it.

deflinus 06.28.2011 12:45 PM

this show blew my mind.
it's produced really well and written so well, it's crazy.
it's inspiring to watch shit like this.

i think some of you guys might like it

chicka 06.29.2011 01:02 PM

Personally I love just about all the Showtime shows. Shameless being my favorite. HBO's Game of Thrones was enjoyable. Sorry to see United States of Tara ending. I loved the show.

LifeDistortion 06.29.2011 06:24 PM

Now that I'm done with my re-visiting of "The X-Files" I'm checking out "Millennium". I'm ashamed to say I never watched this show when it was on, and it was on for three seasons. In fact I never really watched the show, and as a fan of Chris Carter and Lance Henriksen, I should have seen this by now.

Fuck a True Blood, but yeah I was going to say the new Curb too!! I actually laughed out loud a couple of times, which I don't think I really did the last two seasons.

Preseason football tomorrow, y'all.

Dr. Katz

Roseanne

Count Mecha 08.20.2011 10:03 AM

Entertaining, but I can't help but think of it as a light version of Breaking Bad, which in turn is a light version of The Wire. So it's hard to look at this show very seriously, but its fine.

LifeDistortion 08.25.2011 12:22 PM

Does anyone watch the revamped "Dr. Who"? I just saw a series recap on BBC America, and it seems like it might be good. The series is on instant watch on Netflix, but is it worth the time?

I have to disagree that Weeds is in any way related to The Wire.

Weeds is a comedy about some of the most repulsive humans you could imagine, that the corporates used 'marijuana' as a carrier topic for the show is kind of annoying to me, but typical. Didn't Weeds preceed Breaking Bad, also?

Sure, it did precede Breaking Bad. I didn't mean to phrase it that way. And I'll agree with your assessment. The reason I linked them all together is that they all are focused around the drug trade. And I guess that's where I'm a bit short sighted.

There's another strange thing. You call Weeds a comedy, which I'll concede that it is, but bizarrely, I don't find it that funny. I don't mean that to say it's bad. But I hardly ever laugh at it. Hell, I laugh more at The Wire than Weeds. Except for Kevin Nealon, he's amazing.

In any case, I guess what I meant by comparing them was how seriously each show takes its particular drug. And compared to heroin and meth, weed is kind of eh. Still a good show though.

Though one point against Weeds, I haaaaate that theme song. I can take almost anything, but I have to mute that intro whenever I watch it.

I guess AMC is too uncool for people to watch it.

I felt like the beginning of this season was a little weak. But since then I think it's found its footing again. But I do regularly during an episode find myself missing the days when when they winging it, cooking in a shitty RV in the middle of the desert, those were fun times.

The Hour on BBC America. Out of all the shows that seem inspired by "Mad Men", this seems to be the year of the hour long drama set in a past decade. This is possibly the best one.

!@#$%! 09.18.2011 12:44 PM

been watching misfits on hulu. a combination pizza hut and taco bell of skins+heroes, but funnier than either, and not as preposterous as heroes got with all the story-destroying time-travel shit. extra points for religion/"purity" bashing.
