Seriously guys, why should I have to pay taxes when i believe deep down in my heart and with all my conviction that I just don't want to?
Seriously. Explain that with your "logic" and "reasoning". Why can't I decide who I want to have my taxes spent on? I could have them all spent on a statue of me, to show how awesome I am. |
I will say, however, that I object far more to my taxes paying for continued fatuous military actions than I do some snotty turd studying Lithuanian medieval architecture. And it does surprise me how few Americans get annoyed by quite how much of their money goes to supporting military action, but would happily see poorer families die of a gangrenous leg.

But they do anyway, and penalties for not paying taxes in the US can be harsh I hear. It's not "paying taxes" that bothers them is the idea that they could be used to "help" other people. Lazy old ladies who break their hips because they are not careful enough. |

Me diggin' the Stooges has absolutely nothing to do with this. That's retarded. And as I've already made clear, I'm ANYTHING but a republican. |
You are right-wing though. Democrats being left only relative to the Republicans. And, besides which, it's probably only your age. You'll wake up either to being wrong or the fact that you're a natural Republican soon enough.

Seriously guys, but seriously, if I don't WANT to pay taxes, why should I have to?
I saw this guy at the bus stop this morning, he was all smelly and poor and fat, and he was eating an ice cream. I had to get on the bus to go to work but he just sat there. He must not have a job. When I saw him eating that ice cream all I could think about was how my taxes had paid for it and it wasn't fair that I had to go to work and he probably would just sit at the bus stop all day eating ice cream. At lunch time I read the Daily Mail which proved what a scrounger he was. But I couldn't believe the extent of his scrounging. The massive headline said "SHOCK! SCANDAL!" and so my blood started to boil. Then it had all these figures and percentages and words like "OUTRAGE!" "DISGRACE!". The story was already written in my head, I barely needed to read the article. I was so angry all I could do was act like a dick to everyone in work for the rest of the day. I went around shouting at people to stop slacking and work harder. This country is falling apart. Some of my co workers are black, they'll probably give me Bongo Mumbo disease if I share a coke can with them. I went home and collapsed into utter depression on my sofa. I turned on ITV but there was no programmes about middle class detectives brutally beating working class teenagers found smoking a joint. This was going to be a crap night. Usually when you watch those programmes for a brief moment everything in the universe fits into place. Because when the cop has the poor kid with his hoodie on in the interview room, you just know that he is the murderer, and also a paedo and a drug runner and a serial rapist. You see it's hard to explain, you can discern this all from just looking at him and the evil sounding music. This is how the world should work and I am eternally confused in real life when I meet people and all my assumptions about them turn out to be apparently "false" and "all in my head". Real life should work like this, but it doesn't because of political correctness and the euro. I felt so angry at the tv, because they were trying to be all fancy and smart and it turned out the poor guy didn't do it and it was the rich woman. all I could think of doing was ringing up a friend and insinuating that her husband had an affair. Not that it was true, it just felt like the right thing to do. However when I phoned her up she didn't seem to want to listen to me harangue her about what was wrong with her life and what a lazy bitch she was and how she was a disgrace and it was all her fault for being so stupid. She hung up the phone, which confirmed to me that she was a cunt all along and i was fully entitled to have told the boss at work that she was stealing office supplies when she wasn't. This lost her the promotion she wanted, but I had been right all along and now I had proof due to her rudeness on the phone. Things were getting desperate and I had spent all my savings on lottery tickets and pyramid schemes. However the real cause of my financial woes was the euro and benefits cheats. At the time it was 2008 and we still hadn't got rid of that crook Brown yet. Obviously because of him and benefits cheats hard working people like me were eternally poor. I needed to do something drastic, and spent the night thinking about what it could be. Then I suddenly had an epiphany, I would go and buy a lottery ticket because I felt really really lucky all of a sudden. When it turned out that I lost I was so angry and depressed I drove my car into a wall. I then lost the rest of my money attempting to sue my doctor for not noticing I was depressed and thus not stopping me from crashing my car. |

Arguably, yes. But only to those that feel as if their opinion is the only one that should matter (which yes, in this case is the vast majority). I assure you, I hold a more "liberal" view on most other issues, but I fear this is mostly a result of me not having a Christian sense of moral/outlook on the world around me. I support gay marriage, I support marijuana legalization, I'm pro-choice, + I see no shortage of teachers or doctors...thankfully because there are some people out there that realize if THEY want something, they should earn it. I shouldn't be responsible for assisting them in earning it unless it benefits me and the rest of society as a whole. And again, I repeat, there are NO shortage of teachers or doctors. Truth be told (at least in this part of the world) many positions in the medical/educational markets are FLOODED. People with degrees/certifications not being able to find jobs BECAUSE they are not needed. It wouldn't benefit me nor anyone else If I were responsible for paying for all these degrees that are doing absolutely nothing. And if everyone could go to school for free, then this situation would likely be even worse than it already is. This shit would serve little purpose to those, like myself, that no interest in attending a university. What you, or anyone else, may feel about me matters very little...not EVERYONE that opts to not go to college is an idiot. Free health care is an issue I might be able to support. But only to those that can not afford it. Mankind has gotten ahead of itself. We are invisioning a world that is in no way possible for us to currently live in. As of now, WE NEED gas station attendants (sadly enough). We NEED waitresses + cab drivers + garbage men + hospital janitors + all sorts of shit that does not, and should not require a degree (again, sadly enough...not the needing a degree part, but the fact that people think this world needs such rubbish). |

When did society need fucking waitresses?

Quote:
That's what I was getting at in the very last part of my previous post...we shouldn't, but as long as people are eating out they are a major benefit. "poor" isn't something we will likely ever see vanish. |
how can an healthier, educated populace be beneficial to society?
I DON'T UNDERSTAND. |
Yes Sway
No Sway |
Quote:
But university attendance is not necessary in achieving this. |
it is if you want things like doctors, research scientists, well read and studied politicians and journalists, anyone to have an education with not only the best resources but access to the best minds the country has, etc. etc.
|
Quote:
Yeah, but we already have them. :) |
you are an utter fucking moron.
|
i also like your point about how we should deny people university education in order to make our populace purposefully less intelligent, less educated and with less training and qualifications, because we need things like cab drivers and janitors. this is definitely not the stupidest point anyone has ever made in the history of the board, but it is up there.
|
Because if I break my leg today there is no one to fix it?
:) + again, there are other ways of creating a more intelligent society without university. Required high school reading being Carl Sagan's Demon Haunted world, as opposed to Harry Potter or Great Expectations would be a good start. Taking god out of biology/science classes would be an even better one. |
i hope i don't blow your mind here - but you know what happens if we don't train MORE doctors, like constantly...
|
arguing WITH you makes me a moron. because as i've said before you have no points to make except being contrary for the sake of it. and the kind of crap you are spouting now is on about the same level of a child who has discovered variations on the phrase "but no, i think!". it's not just the fact that anyone is taking what you say seriously that makes us all embarrassing, it's the fact that i am still here even typing this.
|
oh i see you've made an edit to pretend you have a point and save face.
yes. all we need is for high schoolers to read carl sagan and they will go on to perform apendectomies and triple bypasses through the sheer power of their lack of a faith in god. |
Quote:
oh, I suddenly realize there is a shortage of people studying medicine, except I don't because there isn't. "Moron" is the individual that attacks someone else because they don't see eye to eye. If the world was full of people like you, we'd all be fucked. "a person is smart, people are stupid". |

But, people are already performing these sorts of surgeries. There is absolutely NO need for it to be free in order for everyone else to learn how to as well. Personally, I'd rather not learn how to. This isn't to say I'd not like to know how to, but I'd rather be doing what I'm already doing. It's served me well. Esp. those that waste their time when they lack the mental ability to learn such a trade..shit, heaven forbid everyone have to waste money on folks that think they can go on to be a doctor just because there parents told 'em they could be anything they wanted. |
Why do you not perform open surgery on yourself following the instructions you can easily find on Wikipedia?
|
The sort of people who wait tables, who man gas stations - they can have educations too. Education shouldn't be directed solely at the next generation of CEOs. Everyone I know doing waiting and 'gas' station type jobs has a degree. One of them likes his job in the 'gas' station because it gives him time to work on music. One lass I know is working on a book and waiting because it requires minimal effort on her part (and she's quite attractive, so does well out of tax-free tips). I think it's preposterous to say that doing a 'menial' job somehow prohibits you from studying, or from being able to benefit from study. For myself, I can't say education is likely to furnish me with a lucrative career, but the benefit it's brought to me personally is the difference between a life of drudgery and a life of drudgery with an appreciation for books and art. University does serve the market, certainly, and the pro-Doctors (etc) argument is a part of it, but that shouldn't be the totality of education.

is there anyone on this message board who believes swa has made one actual point and there is any content to his argumentation whatsoever? anyone? if needs be i'll refute what he said. i just don't see this as likely because i don't think there is anyone dumb enough here to think he is actually saying anything. seriously, is there anyone who doesn't see an idiot being contrary over and over again? anyone? is there anyone that is going to keep doing this with him? if you haven't worked it out now you'll get it eventually.
this is like when you ask a toddler can you have the tv remote control back. and they look at you and grin and laugh guilty. and you say "i can see you have the control" in a playful voice. and they laugh and say "no!" as if they can fool you. and you step closer and ask again and they say "no!" each time. and they are still saying "no!" and laughing after you've pulled it out of their hands and walked away. |
Haha...OK.
I'm going to bed. I worked all night and really don't have time for this shit. Look forward to continuing this later. |
Quote:
A minial job doesn't prevent one from studying if this is what they wish to do, but spending money on shit that really isn't necessary does cause those with menial jobs to struggle a little bit more. |
OK...I'm all for free university, BUT ONLY if those that make below a certain amount aren't seeing any money taken out of their paychecks.
Feel better guys? |

No. No no no no no no no no. No. It causes people to be more engaged with the world. It causes people to challenge their understanding. It causes people to expand their horizons. It causes people to have access to a society of people from outside of their norm. It causes people to realise that there's more to this world than shit jobs. It causes people, if they're lucky, to realise that the world is much more beautiful than economic wealth. It gives people self-belief and confidence. It causes people in poverty (hello) to have a framework to break out of strict economic terms. It sometimes causes people to be annoying turds, but they'd be annoying turds anyway. Honestly, if education is just another aspect of the free market then no-one should be studying and I'll be voting to have the Nazis in. If your frame of reference is that narrow then - and I mean this quite seriously - please kill yourself. |
Quote:
Ignorance is thinking that only free university can achieve all of this. Everything you've mentioned, every bit of it, should be rather elementary...you know, like elementary school (and of course, middle and high school as well). < all "free" by your definition of the word. |
These days, if you consider yrself "liberal" it's necessary to wish suicide/death upon anyone you may disagree with. Hitler thought kinda like that.
I'm so fucking glad I'm not a part of that world. |
well it isn't elementary. and elementary schools can never do these things, let alone train kids in things like neuroscience, pharmacology and advanced computing.
and the people that teach these subjects need paid. so they can live. and so they don't go off to some other country that can pay them more and allow them things like food and housing and resources like computers and chemicals and laboratories and lecturers. you utter fucking moron. |
Quote:
Yes, they "need paid". Hopefully you learned that at whatever university you went to. Here, people DO get paid for whatever they study taken there is a demand for it. Fuck some asshole that thinks he needs to go to college for the sole purpose of becoming more intelligent. |
