Yeah it was pretty bad. Best I can say is that there was some nice lighting in that plane scene. Otherwise … oof.

yah if it's after 10m i will never know.

on the other hand, i borrowed captain marvel from the library because of some odd reason, plus it was free, and surprise surprise, it was pretty amusing, and i liked it quite a bit actually, nice jokes and all, loved the flerken, hahahaha.

I meant to say “plane scene” in my Wonder Woman 1984 response but I’m still exclusively using this site on my iPhone so typos will happen.

Anyway yeah, I also enjoyed Captain Marvel. I love that Brie Larson, man. She pisses off all the most disgusting people just by being herself. And she’s not a bad actor either. A joy in fact.

Love it when dude-bros get all flustered about Brie Larson and “PC gone mad” or whatever. Lmao. Shut up nerds.

Rob Instigator 07.28.2022 09:20 AM

I watched about 20 mins of WW1984. so caca.

Then I watched the old Wonder Woman TV show which airs on sunday mornings on THIS TV, and i remembered the countless times I would fantasize about wonder woman as a kid in 70's 80's.

tw2113 07.28.2022 10:54 PM

Logan's Run from 1976. Definitely interesting in a sci-fi way. Also was in preparation for a podcast I listen to covering the movie.

Rob Instigator 08.03.2022 01:59 PM

When harry Met Sally.

again

_tunic_ 08.03.2022 03:07 PM

The new Ghostbusters movie is actually quite good, the end is a bit meh though

I definitely like it. Quality stuff overall.

tw2113 08.06.2022 10:59 PM

Buffy The Vampire Slayer followed up with My Boyfriend's Back. Same era, with at least one common actor between the two.

Watched The CROUPIER, about a casino dealer.

Very 90's style, and story. Found it entertaining, but not great.

I watched Prey, it was good, should not have been primarily in English because it makes no sense that a bunch of indigenous people would be speaking to each other in English in 1719.

Still, good stuff.

Also rewatched Clueless. Still good, bit problematic, not as much as you’d expect.

Also this horrible rom-com called Down to You which should never have existed

I think not even halfway through the movie, I went like "You know what this is? It's like one of those inconsequential 90s buddy cop Action movies, only with a superheroine as its protagonist.". And regarding it as such, I enjoyed it a lot, too. It had fun with its material.

_tunic_ 08.12.2022 12:13 PM

good movie, but I didn't understand why Rachel Weisz won an Oscar for her role as Best Supporting Actress

and also:

it is on Netflix (in case you didn't know)
it was a nice movie, and decent special effects, but found that some of the characters were underdeveloped. Not sure anymore why I chose this one out of the thousands of other movies, it was like 30 degrees and felt like watching a no brain movie.

As a prequel, on the same day I also watched this one. They (Aardman, of Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run) made better movies but it does have its fun moments:

Voyage of the Rock Aliens.

Rob Instigator 08.22.2022 10:26 AM

watched Everything, Everywhere, All At Once.

super cool sci fi flick. gonna watch that shit again.

enjoyed it more than dr strange and the multiverse of madness.

Severian 08.22.2022 11:02 AM

20th Century Women. It was excellent.

One of my friends took me out to see this a few months ago (outside of the weekly family movie night, I never really watch anything). I thought it was great, very creatively done - that fight scene with the desk trophy had me mouthing "no way" constantly.
I also liked that the explanation for how the shifts worked felt very Douglas Adams, it's the same vague theory as the Infinite Improbability Drive.

scwxx77 08.23.2022 11:31 AM

I watched Big Wednesday, a surfing coming of age movie from the 1970s.

tw2113 08.31.2022 01:16 AM

Go vote on the next movie I write about

Current movies:

This round I chose 4 that got dead last in previous polls to try and give them one last chance.

Severian 08.31.2022 06:37 AM

Finally saw NOPE and it was very good. I might not have liked it as much as US, but still, extremely well done film. What an amazing filmography Jordan Peele has going.

Hocus Pocus
I Know Who Killed Me
Easy A

Severian 09.05.2022 03:09 PM

How it Ends (eh)

Villains (pretty good)
Hustlers (pretty good)

I keep getting told this is fantastic , and it's been sitting on my to-watch list collecting dust.

I haven't seen anything noteworthy lately. Might hit up the Robert Johnston doc or the new Andy Warhol one on Netflix soon.

For those curious, "Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama" won

hahaha heathers, very funny. hustlers was okay, i liked the strippers, but the end when it merges with journalism perhaps not so much, idk...

hahhaha! why must you suffer? :D

!@#$%! 09.11.2022 07:26 AM

a few things i had previously missed:

valley girl (1982) - ooooof, terrible. what was it doing on criterion? it has a couple of nice songs but the rest is shit, seriously. i propose it for tw2113's bad movie contest because there are brief nipples and so maybe it qualifies?

married to the mob (1988) - fun!

the usual suspects (1995) - really really good, why did it take me so long to get around to it?

Can I hammer a six inch spike through a board with my penis? Cause a site has to have its standards.

Like, I'm so sure.

Severian 09.11.2022 08:15 PM

The Nice Guys (still very good)
Matchstick Men (doesn’t hold up, not good, frankly bad)
Roadhouse (patently ridiculous but fun. Didn’t finish it but maybe next weekend).

but you can try...

I've seen Valley Girl before though it's been awhile. Just another loosely based on Shakespeare.

Did you hear they’re doing a reboot or whatever on one of the streaming jobbers?
