I know discussion has (rightfully) moved on, but christ, any of you kanye supporters, please watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S78tT_YxF_c#t=0 and tell me he isn't an unadulterated simpleton.

also, sev, using the critics argument can no longer cut it in the 21st century, for better or worse. them supporting him unanimously, likely on the back of pitchfork riding him like a fucking donkey, has made them ripe for indictment as a joke of an industry. as above attests, he is stupid, a deluded, infantile fuckwit whose head is so far up his own arse as to completely eschew the entire rest of the world from his considerations.

not going to get into the talent debate, because if someone like kanye west can be deemed high art then the matter is blatantly subjective.

hell yeah. That's the highlight of D5 for me. That track is amazing.

louder 12.04.2013 02:50 AM

CREAM has some of Wayne's best bars in years, too.

"man it's been a minute since i seen my nigga Bubble
some niggas fade away, some niggas hit the jumper
kidnap your niece, don't cry, call your uncle
we don't wanna hurt you, baby, we just want your uncle"

yeah "CREAM" is good but I don't know. It feels like nobody else should rap on any beat from 36 Chambers.

Yeezus is RollingStone's #2 album of the year.

Forget who's #1.... Doesn't matter. I just wanted to share this with you all.

This means it's time to stop ducking around and actually create year end lists. I think I have my cross-genre list down pretty well, but my hip hop list is undergoing changes.

Like, Underachievers were really under appreciated this year. Their album holds up, and is crazy good. Wasn't expecting that. More later.

noisereductions 12.04.2013 10:26 PM

I'll make my list when year ends, but I'm pretty sure it's A$AP, Kanye and 8 others...

(4) Ghostface Killah "Twelve Reasons To Die"
(5) Earl Sweatshirt "Doris"
(6) Hieroglyphics "The Kitchen"
(7) Janelle Monae "The Electric Lady"
(8) MC Eiht "Keep It Hood"
(9) Kanye West "Yeezus" (same thing, it makes the list even if I don't listen to it)
(10) Inspectah Deck "Czarface"
(10 part b) Kool Keith "Magnetic Pimp Force Field" (this record is interesting, the way Dr Dooom was a satiric exploration of 1990s noir rap, this seems like Keith satirizing the Kanye/Wayne pimp rap records of 2013)

Revised this list and unless something really kick ass comes out in the next three weeks I'm sticking too it! What is fantastic is there are at least five records that didn't make this list that were also good, so I dare say 2013 is the best year of the 2000s for hip-hop. I haven't even found 10 rap records I like in one year since the 1990s!! Also, can't believe I slept on the top-5 (Priest, Talib, Ghostface..) records of the year and was sixth months late to the party yo!

Jay-Z ranked his discog and commented each album:
Quote:

1. Reasonable Doubt (Classic)
2. The Blueprint (Classic)
3. The Black Album (Classic)
4. Vol. 2 (Classic)
5. American Gangster (4 1/2, cohesive)
6. Magna Carta (Fuckwit, Tom Ford, Oceans, Beach, On the Run, Grail)
7. Vol. 1 (Sunshine kills this album…fuck… Streets, Where I'm from, You Must Love Me…)
8. BP3 (Sorry critics, it's good. Empire (Gave Frank a run for his money))
9. Dynasty (Intro alone…)
10. Vol. 3 (Pimp C verse alone… oh, So Ghetto)
11. BP2 (Too many songs. Fucking Guru and Hip Hop, ha)
12. Kingdom Come (First game back, don't shoot me)

i'd rank American Gangster above Vol. 2, and Magna Carta below the Dynasty. otherwise i agree. it's nice that he's self-conscious.

noisereductions 12.05.2013 08:02 PM

^yeah good calls. But American Gangster is Top 5 for sure. And I'd put BP2 way higher.

noisereductions 12.05.2013 10:10 PM

funny he left off collab albums. Prob so as not to diss the other party...
