...?! I'm not sure what that means, but I suggest watching some films, you'll be surprised. Good stuff. They're just good movies, nothing groundbreaking, but he's done some wonderful, important stuff. Woody Allen the person seems annoying, if only based off Simspons jokes made at his expense or his public persona, but I was surprised at how great his movies are. I really honestly don't think it's possible for a fan of movies to dislike Annie Hall. Husbands and Wives is essential. Trust me.

Anyway,

longest nite - 8/10

forgot to mention, watched this earlier:

made in hong kong - 7/10

That's awesome, murmer. I'm glad someone else besides me loved Rampo Noir -- I've been telling people for 3 years to check it out. It wasn't critically well-received at all. You should definitely check out PINNOCHIO 964:

This is another one of those movies that critics seemed to hate and you get a lot of confused reviews all over the net, especially imdb.. but this film absolutely BLEW ME AWAY. Screaming, vomitting, melting, messy, insane, beautiful film. I bought it about 5 years ago from amazon.com for $5, so it's probably easy to get for cheap.

I also highly reccomend getting Takeshi Kitano films, any of 'em, since he's my favorite director, I know I always reccomend him, but Hana-Bi, man.. HANA fucking BI.

Better films don't exist, really, ever.

get TASTE OF TEA..

unless you've already seen it.. you have to be in the mood for it, but if you have 2 1/2 hours to kill, it's the most beautiful japanese film of the past decade, imo. just amazing. has some great animtion in it, too!

Finally, get some wong kar wai...
'''

most of his films rule, though nothing really beats fallen angels (most people prefer chunking express but some of the music nearly ruins the film. fallen angels is just so cool, so colorful, so perfect. it's kinda like john woo -- the killer era -- meets godard, pierrot le fou or something. doesn't get much cooler than that.... my favorite films of all time come from asia, especailly hong kong. always have reccomendations ready for anyone that wants anything from over there!!!

gotta be one of my favorite covers:

this dvd has more quotes on it than any other movie, it has a 92% rating on rotten tomatoes too, which is kinda shocking. Gotta love all those 4 stars!

I havent seen enough Woody Allen, but liked everything I've seen.

Yep, it's my favorite Batman too! Man. We have similiar tastes. So awesome.

Pinnochio 964 is nothing like Eraserhead -- crazy reviewers. It's like Tetsuo, and it's a masterpiece. You'll love.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 11.06.2010 02:07 AM

Pinnochio 964 is really good. I enjoyed it a lot more than Death Powder.

LifeDistortion 11.06.2010 02:10 AM

Arguably one of the best movie soundtracks of all time.

atsonicpark 11.06.2010 01:24 PM

BLOW OUT is a masterpiece, fuck yeah!

Bend it Like Beckham. 7/10

Not a great film, but a perfect feel-good one.

migrating forms - 9/10

I'm sorry, a lot of people don't like this film, and it's not his best (back against the wall, flat-out, straight-up, is probably my favorite no-budget indie film ever made, a clear 10/10 and a HUGE influence on my stuff, especially NRTE). Something about the atmosphere in this one just blows me AWAY. I LOVE IT.

my imdb review of it:
Wow, James Fotopoulos is a rare voice in the world of experimental film, doing something truly different, that most people probably won't care about (check the other ridiculous reviews if you want evidence of that). Yes, this is essentially two people in a room, having sex, and saying a few things, with some cutaway shots of ... other things ... while a cyst grows on a girl's back.

It is purposely abrasive, minimal, disorienting, and hard to take. It is sloooooooow, the music is headache-inducing. It's probably a painful experience to the uninitiated. But I thought it was brilliant. Really some next-level stuff, especially in the field of "no-budget cinema" (though, obviously, this HAD a budget, since it was shot on FILM, and film costs money, you know!).

I can't reveal what I took out of this film, because I took a LOT.. it was a completely beautiful experience. Existentialism is talked about a lot in films but this film truly explores themes I've never seen explored in other films. I loved the glacial pace, the beautiful black and white 16mm cinematography, etc. If you're into films that are different or want to see a director who has really honed in on the vibe Lynch had on Eraserhead, check out this film or any of this other guy's features. I have an odd feeling, since he hasn't worked since 2002 that I know of, that he is no longer making films, despite making a bunch of full lengths and 100 shorts. What a sad society we live in when Guy Maddin's pseudo-art garbage is held on a pedestal and we're told, "This is art!" when a guy who is truly doing something different and amazing gets no recognition whatsoever (though this film DID win "film of the year" at a festival, which is great!). Regardless, this film is a masterpiece and my life feels enhanced for watching it.

8/10. One of my favorite Woody Allen movies so far. Very interesting concept, love the whole atmosphere of the movie and Jeff Daniels is a pretty good actor. Also, the ending is impressive. A must-see.

deflinus 11.07.2010 04:16 PM

^^

thanks for reminding me about that movie. shit, i have to see that asap. it's been awhile

fugazifan 11.07.2010 06:25 PM

i have seen tons of woody allen films. most are not great some are amaing.

bannanas has always and will always be my favorite woody allen film.
i really like love and eeath as well. some of the dialogues there are some of the cleverest and funniest that i have seen.

the thing about deconstructing harry is its connection to wild strawberries which is really clever. but it is also just a great film even if you are not familiar with bergman.

annie hall is also great, as well as sleeper.
radio days sweet and lowdown are really good films. i still need to see some of his good ones like hannah and her sisters and crimes and misdemeaners.
i have seen way too many terrible movies of his.

ni'k 11.07.2010 06:35 PM

adam, have you heard about life and death of a porno gang and a serbian film yet? i know you will eventually, there are torrents but i cant find any english subs.

you'll be into them both im sure. tell me if you see any subs.

atsonicpark 11.07.2010 07:53 PM

heard of em fugazifan, not seen em yet.

MURMER, I have meatball machine, it's... alright. It's based on a short which is way better. It has some crazy moments, in the tetsuo/pinnochio 964/rubber's lover/death powder vein, but it's definitely the worst film in that "genre". It just gets so tiring by the end. It's really gooey and ridiculous though, but I've seen it 2 times and can hardly remember what happened in it beyond the goo, so it's not something that's very memorable either.
