And you could like Tony Soprano?! Don't have to like the character to enjoy the program.

i think one has to be able to relate/sympathize at some level otherwise the show fails with the audience. not the same with every audience.

SPOILERS EUGENE AVERT YOUR EYES

tony at some level is a family man, is hounded by problems, fears death of worse, besides being a fucking sociopath. the audience sees a dad, a husband, an abused son and brother... who is also a motherfucker. note:ALSO.

the whole ordeal with the therapist is the very point of that. she thinks she can cure him. we think he’s got a human side.

SPOILERS ENDED

that woman from fleabag i have zero empathy for. just the way she was written. seems dead inside. just a mechanism.

same thing with the family fucking guy. can’t stand anyone in it, reads to me like cynicism not satire, therefore i never watched.

Not sure how far you got into Fleabag but there are definitely bits in that where you sympathise with her and what she's going through. Now neither of us are women in mid-30s living in London. However, a few female friends I've spoken to about it have all noted how real it is. Fact is everyone is busy looking for their mate and wanting to fuck. She's an extreme form of it but that's talked about later in the first series.

I think you'd made up your mind about her early on and then decided to budge from that opinion. We all have traits that make us disliked by people and Fleabag is no different. A program barely two series old and you can see the evolution of the character already.

!@#$%! 03.31.2019 07:33 AM

well yeah i made up my mind early, it’s how tv works... if one can’t stand something there are other options. it’s not supposed to be bootcamp/torture.

the first time it was just depressing and we killed it after 10 minutes, the second time we said okay watched the whole first episode and she’s such a fucking asshole. then started episode 2 and just nope.

i need this show like i need a fork in my eye. :D

sorry man. did not like. won’t try again.

anyway now on season 4 of halt and catch fire. SO HOOKED. al gore is about to invent the internet haaahaaaahaaa

Dr. Eugene Felikson 04.01.2019 08:19 PM

Re-started watching Arrow again. I had only seen the first two seasons prior as I was waiting for the blu ray release of S03 at the time, and got distracted by life.

Something about a hero protecting their city w/ some mild soap opera like drama gets me every time.

!@#$%! 04.01.2019 10:00 PM

fucking halt and catch fire season 4 is like wrapping up or something and it’s sooooooo muuuuuuuch fucking reminiscence it’s BORING

way to jump the shark guys...

Only 3 seasons though, right?

Abyway, yeah, it turned into a drag there near the end.

Peterpuff 04.02.2019 10:05 AM

Started Atlanta over the weekend based on a few peeps here talking it up. about 4 episodes in and really enjoying it a lot.

Also watched a few episodes of The Act. I feel it might be a good watch, but also feel it's going to be a gut-puncher to get through.

choc e-Claire 04.03.2019 10:55 PM

We'll be watching it during English Language as an example of Australian English and the features of it.

Probably not a good thing that I identified with the 'emo dykes' the main character was bitching about. (Her words, not mine)

_tunic_ 04.04.2019 03:22 AM

when I was in high school, the religion teacher, whenever he didn't feel like teaching which was very often would press play on the VHS cassette of his favourite movie:

Life Of Brian!

this is what I've been watching on tv lately. I never really liked the Big Bang Theory so much (except for maybe the first seasons), I do like this prequel spin-off

choc e-Claire 04.04.2019 03:40 AM

One time we had a sub teacher in Health and I just spent the whole class watching Monty Python clips on YouTube. The teacher walked past, saw what we were doing, and suggested that we watch the Ministry of Silly Walks.

And Young Sheldon is quite enjoyable, it's managed to stop with the tropes that make the original show iffy. And one of my friends looks like Sheldon's dad

ilduclo 04.04.2019 07:16 AM

Looks like Jared Kushner

_tunic_ 04.04.2019 07:21 AM

sssssst. it's supposed to be a secret that would be revealed in season 4

!@#$%! 04.04.2019 07:24 AM

Wrestlemania has always been WWF/WWE, so still Vince McMahon. This was the 35th consecutive year.

Just watched this. Talk about feeling shitty for driving a diesel car now! Honestly, my next car is gonna be electric after watching this.

yeah, switching to diesel to save energy only to find out it increases emissions is a huge disappointment. i have never been able to stand the smell of diesel so i stayed away.

and i would have said don’t despair, biodiesel can lend your engine a new greener life, but unfortunately as i understand nox increases with biodiesel. ayayay...

next, wait for the info on battery manufacturing’s environmental effects :D

eh, i just said this to illustrate that everything is tradeoffs....

i couldn’t drive electric where i live. the distances are too big. hybrid is appealing though, due to long driving range.

however, the most environmental thing i can do right now is to keep my 8 cylinder truck running for as long as possible, hahaha.

we mostly walk/bike to places, and the driving is just for rare supply trips faraway.

so, the embedded energy of a new vehicle would outstrip any fuel saving benefits.

srsly though, biking more and driving less would achieve tons more.

oh that game is on again

I'm lucky in that I live in the city centre so apart from work and driving to the Mrs' house I don't use the car more than I need to. However, I do do a lot of driving to and from work.

yeah, we’re lucky we relocated to a no-drive/zero commute spot. it’s actually a big consideration for us when moving/choosing work. fucking hate traffic.

anyway the... there’s a really nice british documentary on the bicycle i saw recently. i watched it free on amazon, but might be different for you. here’s the thing:

6 episodes so if they don't skip any weeks, you can start on May 20th after the last one has aired on the 19th

thanks! so assuming one delay (some holiday of some sort), may 26th last day, i could start a 7-day trial next week, pay for a month, and then land safely on the other side of things. basically i'll just be late for the opener and then follow with everyone.

or i could wait till the end, do the 7 day trial, and cancel :p

but no, i will pay my dues. scout's honor! lmao

ok i'd better analyze this further. maybe i could start tonite. thanks for you help! must spread more spread.

watching the Mighty Boosh. super funny

Rob Instigator 04.15.2019 10:12 AM

also watching second season of American Gods. It has become more like the novel, thank goodness, and has far less of the soft-core porn shit that season 1's show runners thought was needed.

Reviews are mixed, but I prefer it.

!@#$%! 04.16.2019 08:39 AM

started catching up with season 2 of westworld last night

man that is one insufferable gore porn after another

watching an injun getting scalped is not any kind of fun, even if it's a plastic head

thandie newton and jeffrey wright are fantastic, but after that it becomes sorta like the walking dead

might try a couple more episodes as paperwork tv but so far disappoint

I hate that show. it is just like Mad men, fantasy made real for wypepol. why do people want to watch recreations of the most horrific shit white folks did over and over and over again? because they LIKE IT. They get hard at it.

fuck that shit.

This show was hit or miss for me, but I did enjoy the tone of it for the most part. How is Season 2 holding up? I might have to start that this week.
