I love Fulci. I love New York Ripper. It's such a mean spirited film!!

My Fulci top 10 would be:

1. GATES OF HELL/CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD
2. THE BEYOND
3. LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN
4. CAT IN THE BRAIN
5. NEW YORK RIPPER
6. DON'T TORTURE A DUCKLING
7. ZOMBIE
8. THE PSYCHIC
9. NEW GLADIATORS
10. HOUSE BY THE CEMETARY

Something really strange and interesting about his atmospheres...

Wow, really? I've never really thought anyone dug it, aside from the final battle when it's CARRIE VS. JASON. I like when she throws her dad's dead body at Jason. My ratings...

1 - 7/10
2 - 6/10
3 - 6/10
4 - 6/10
5 - 3/10
6 - 9/10 (entertaining as hell!)
7 - 5/10
8 - 5/10
9 - 8/10 (MEAN as hell, but fun)
10 - 6/10 (why is david cronenberg in this? Anyway, surprisingly fun but doesn't feel like a Jason film, does it?)
Freddy vs - 5/10
remake - 3/10

Re. 6/10

Interesting, our ratings were pretty similiar (yours were all higher, but I mean, we seemed to enjoy the same films, you know what I mean?) Except I hated the remake and 5. 5 was boring, and a total copout.

It seems pretty obvious to me that 6 is by far and away the best of the series, though. Man, I'm going to watch 6 tonight. So good.

...Also, I like Def by Temptation. It's a weird one. Samuel L Jackson's appearance was very odd.

noisereductions 01.16.2011 11:46 AM

yeah you're right, our choices were very close on the same curve. I only enjoyed the remake because I sort of thought of it like a sequel that took place NOW. And I liked it because (for the most part) I felt they didn't fuck anything up too bad. They could have totally ruined it, like the Nightmare On Elm Street remake y'know? But they just played it safe and took the easy way out stuck to the source material pretty closely. Which was fine with me. F13 is easily my favorite film series of all time, so if there's a movie with Jason in it, then I already "like" it. Y'know? But yeah, 6 is by far the best. Perfect balance of horror/gore/funny/self-awareness without going overboard. They could have fucked that up big time -- as proof, most horror-comedy eats shit.

Def By Temptation was better than I expected but not great. Joe recently said it was better than Vampire In Brooklyn (I assume because of Kadeem Harrison being in both?) but I totally disagree. It was a good film, but Vampire is better. Though not great. Neither are great.

VAMPIRE IN BROOKLYN is way better, but both kinda suck.

I LOVE Sucker: the vampire though. It's a vampire comedy that's genuinely disturbing (fucking dead bodies and whatnot). A vampire sucks a whore's blood and gets AIDS. All sorts of groovy music, and oversaturated Argento colors. Entertaining as hell and surprisingly dark.

I LOVE Vampire's Kiss, the weird as hell Nic Cage fillm.

noisereductions 01.16.2011 04:22 PM

I love the plot of Sucker, but I had trouble watching it because (at least on my DVD copy) the volume was wicked low and saturated with analog hiss -- it was really hard to listen to it and kind of ruined the movie for me unfortunately.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 01.16.2011 08:49 PM

F13 - 7/10
F13 II - 8/10
F13 III 3D - 6/10
The Final Chapter - 9/10
A New Beginning - 5/10 (chocolate bar scene rules)
Jason Lives - 8/10
The New Blood - 9/10
Jason Takes Manhattan - 7/10
Jason Goes To Hell - 7/10
Jason X - 8/10
Freddy Vs Jason - 6/10
Remake - 4/10

I love part VII. Tina is my favorite F13 victim, I like her even more than Tommy. It was great seeing her return in the Freddy vs Jason vs Ash comic series. I also really liked the underwater nude scene a whole bunch, and thought many of the deaths were awesome. And yes, the ending kicks major ass.

I've always felt that this was one of Waters' most under-appreciated works. This movie is very funny, and just like any other Waters classic, the cast is absolutely wonderful. Kathleen Turner nailed her role perfectly, and the choice of using Matt Lillard, Ricki Lake, and Law & Order's Sam Waterson as her family was equally brilliant. Not to mention cameos from Mink Stole, Traci Lords, Pattie Hearst, Suzanne Somers, and EVEN FUCKING L7 (performing as Camel Lips) truly round out this clever satire of the glamorization of violence in America.

I don't think that the jokes wear as thinly as many critics bitched, as I always laugh throughout the entire film with each viewing; and the kills were cleverly delivered with a proper grain of salt, in tune with the rest of the film's comically satirical themes. Serial Mom isn't necessarily a masterpiece, but it definitely deserves a few more name drops when discussing great Waters films.

Thought this was really good.

Pretty average exploitation flick with a humorous concept. It was alright. I appreciate the massive audience that this film reached, for what it was. Nothing too special though.

Insatiable (7/10)

Perhaps a bit too polished and mainstream for some tastes, I still think it's a shame that Insatiable isn't as well known as some other porn 'classics' from that 70s-early 80s 'golden era'. It's not as subversive as The Devil in Miss Jones or as sensational as Deep Throat but it's about as close as porn may ever get to producing the kind of hardcore-mainstream cinema that Burt Reynolds' character in Boogie Nights dreamed about. And while Linda Lovelace received the headlines for the controversy behind DT, and Georgina Spelvin grabbed the attention of critics for her acting abilities in DiMJ, as a flat out porn actress, Marilyn Chambers owned the pair of them. And she sings the movie's theme song!

atsonicpark 01.18.2011 05:32 PM

Human Centipede was so boring. I remember asking on imdb how it got so popular, though, and someone said CNN had a news story about it or something insane.
