Of the top of my head - and I reckon we should limit it to one per artist...
Adore - Smashing Pumpkins EVOL - Sonic Youth You're Living all Over Me - Dinosaur Jr. Roman Candle - Elliott Smith Pornography - The Cure Loveless - My Bloody Valentine Technique - New Order Aladin Sane - David Bowie Interpol - Turn On the Bright Lights (not a huge fan of the band but this album is great) Polvo - Todays Active Lifestyles (recently got this - love it!) I have no idea why i started putting my thoughts in to brackets at the end. Sorry for wasting your time. More so if you're reading this. |
how can you condensate all the good music in 10 titles?
ok, lemme try (sorting them out randomly): THE SISTERS OF MERCY - FLOODLAND (1987) PRONG - RUDE AWAKENING (1996) SONIC YOUTH - DIRTY (1992) KILLING JOKE - NIGHT TIME (1985) MICHAEL JACKSON - DANGEROUS (1991) QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE - ERA VULGARIS (2007) SADUS - A VISION OF MISERY (1992) COCTEAU TWINS - HEAD OVER HEELS (1983) KING CRIMSON - RED (1974) AKIRA YAMAOKA - SILENT HILL (1999) Ministry are left out with a good amount of other bands. Sorry. |
i just wrote down like a thousand alblums and then just decided to delete em all and decided to pick one:
Stooges-Fun House it represents almost all the music i love; punk rock (obviously), noise, free jazz, a little experimental, and of course, ROCK AND ROLL. just missing hip hop and some of the warp records electronic and brian eno-ish ambient stuff i love. |
If there's one thing I've learned in my travels through this crazy little thing called life, it's never trust a man who has a top 10 anything list. Nevertheless, I can't resist coming up with a list of my own.

My top 10 list of all time:

Everything, and I mean everything about this album is mind blowing. Nirvana-In Utero Take it I lose indie cred for this inclusion? Queen-Sheet Heart Attack Download 'Lap of the gods' and 'Brighton Rock' to see why Massive Attack-Mezzanine Some see this album as being depressing. I just see it as being fantastic Rocky Horror Picture Show Soundtrack Camper than Graham Norton next to a Christmas Tree, but really, does it matter when it sounds this good? Sonic Youth-Washing Machine Don't need to elaborate on this one Opeth-Deliverence The title song just oozes brilliance. Next to Pantera they're one of the few metal bands I can sit down and actually enjoy. Pantera-Vulgar Display Of Power Made technical guitar cool again. Radiohead-Kid A For The Beatles it was "Which is better, The White Album or Sgt. Peppers". For Radiohead it's either Kid A or OK Computer. No matter which way you look at it, this is better. Brian Eno-Music For Airports The music, when played, is just there. It doesn;t need to scream in your face to make you realise how great it is. |

These things change by the hour, but here's ten albums (among many others) that mean a helluva lot to me, for all kinds of reasons:
1. Lou Reed - Transformer 2. Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 3. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust 4. Patti Smith - Horses 5. Laura Nyro - New York Tenderberry 6. John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band 7. Velvets - Third Album 8. Television - Marquee Moon 9. Antony and the Johnsons - I am a Bird Now 10. Richard and Linda Thompson - Shoot Out the Lights |
I'm going to make another one even though I'll look back in two days and realise I missed something I really love.
In no order: Black Sabbath- Masters of Reality John Coltrane- The Major Works of (Compilation of later works) Darkthrone- Transilvanian Hunger Guided By Voices- Bee Thousand The Misfits- Static Age The Replacements- Let It Be Repulsion- Horrified Alan Vega- 1st LP Stooges- Funhouse Wu-tang Clan- Enter the Wu-tang |

i love all these, 36 chambers is the best hip hop alblum ever, undisputed, and ranks with loveless ok computer and every other seminal album you wanna throw at me to argue. ive always drawn a connection between rza and people like brian wilson and brian eno, in that they all have a keen ear for sound melody and beats and are capable of making the most beautiful noises from these sounds, just that he comes from a vastly different background. Rza is the urban Aphex Twin! On a side note, Funhouse is also my undisputed favorite, songs about fuckin is in my top 10, damaged def top 20 at least, i also love boris, sleeo, neu, to some extent i like wolf eyes (i think there are way better "noise rock" bands), love neu, love rocket, i like ur list. i didnt even bother makin this list, id feel like im leaving out somethin and that id have to represent the best alblums of all the types of music i love. |
