Portishead - Live 1998: Sour Times/Roads limited 10" (December 6)
"Following the 25th anniversary edition of their Roseland NYC Live album, Portishead release two tracks left out of the remasters, making Live 1998 a truly essential pickup." |
Well, His Kendrickness surprised the world (outside of SYG that is) with an album drop last week. There was a time when this was cause for much critical thinking/duscussion. (I thought To Pimp A Butterfly was brilliant.) But now it seems to be all about diss tracks and Drake.
(To be clear, I could not whistle a Drake tune to save my life.) |
Also, Tyler The Creator recently put out his new one with no mention here. Is he also on "The List" that I think I am going to make?
|
when it comes to album artwork, this one would be one of th better ones of this year Not sure about the music yet though

Thanks for this. I like Quietus, generally. There's a lot there that I need to research - especially #1. |

Not much of a spoiler alert: The Collective made it (#64). This is stupid, though. I know not many albums are released in December, but what is the damn rush publish/post your lists the first week of January or something. |

The Quietus is a very good site. And it's so elegant! :) |

I fell in love with Quietus when they gave Richard Dawson - Peasant AOTY in 2017. I remember raving about how Ogre was The Greatest Song Ever (it still is), but that went over like the MAGA thread. |

"Fairport Unconventional", AllMusic called him... Heh. Gonna have to give it a spin. |
Let me help!!!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jfaW-yD7DoA (Please...pleeeeaaasee go all the way to the end.....of The Greatest Song Ever Recorded.) |
I love one of the youtuber comments: (It pretty much parallels my first reaction.)
"1st Listen > Me: Wtf is this? 2nd Listen > Me: Okay, this is different. Pretty creative freak folk. 3rd Listen > Me: IN THE KIIIIIINGDOM OF BRYNEICH!!!" |
|
Actually, both Exclaim! and Pitchfork put Cindy Lee at #1, and I'm ashamed to say that I know fuckall about her/them. But sampling the monolithic Diamond Jubilee has me salivating.

Note to self to check out that Milan W. album that's ranked on number 44 here. He used to be the second guitarist in Flying Horseman, one of my favourite bands. Actually listening now, the backup vocals on some tracks are by one of the women in that band. I only heard one and a half track so far, until now I still prefer Flying Horseman... I find Milan's voice a bit boring actually |
Seefeel - Squared Roots (December 4)
Limited edition FUCK. Don't buy it yet! I mean, buy it after I can buy it! Or send me money! |
Does anyone here do Crack?
https://crackmagazine.net/article/li...t-albums-2024/ Fuck me! Look what's at #1 yet again! So....brat. Is that one of those really great records that belongs on the special SYG list that I have not compiled yet? |

I listened to a few tracks some months ago and it didn't really appeal ti me, so I don't know. I've been more or less on a diet of DOOM this year and I much rather hear that than some lofi sixties revival act. This list has a Dutch artist ranked at 21 that I've never heard of, and listening for after 10 seconds I concluded I'll keep it at that I must be getting old I just don't care anymore, but do consider to buy the Cure's live album, Some songs are excellent |

Why not just post the top 10's of all those best of lists and be done with it. |

Because Kiim is sometimes at 11+? Was that the right answer? |

#33 / Rough Trade UK #96 / The Quietus |
Oh I get it now. Sort of like Metacritic.
But we all know that Rolling Stone will give 5 Stars to certain artists even if they just recorded their farts. |

Metacritic's music section is almost an afterthought now, which is why I went with AOTY. Rolling Stone's best of 2024 list is a sewer. |

"Kamala is brat". Yeah, that went super. |

I think Wilco - Cousin is very good, but I always feel that it lacks something.
This morning I heard the new EP - and that is precisely what Cousin lacks. I'm making a 16 track Hot Sun Cool Cousin. |
All out now:
Pere Ubu - Help, I'm On Tour ("including 'the video that never was'") Bill Orcutt - How To Rescue Things Daniel Johnston - The Lost Recordings IV (1980-1983) |

I did not know that Fiery Furnaces released an album!
I played your numbers 58, 3 and 2 until the CDs wore out. |

Charli XCX - brat - is fucking great!!! There, I said it!! I picked it up to see what all the fuss was about. I played it the last 3x morning baths. (TMI, I know.) The first 2x I be like "Yeah, another pop album that is akin to eating ice cream....it's fun, but I gotta have my meat and potatoes...." But the 3rd spin hit me hard! This is fucking wonderful songcraft/production/concept/etc. I'm in!!! Go ahead SYG Cool Police. I have adopted the position. |
Um....I'm so fascinated by the contents of that copy/paste, and the shit that came from thin air, that I'm not willing to edit it. Ima just gonna sit here and be all wtf.
Edit: And now I have a new sig....that came from....er.....SYG....I think!? |
Somehow, despite my demographic, I still haven't heard Brat yet. How I'm Feeling Now was one of the better albums from the early pandemic though, it was one of the first major albums to take in this hyperpop-type production.
|
Brat is good. Songwriting’s a bit iffy but the album is solid. 360 is hard as fuck.
Why would SYG take issue with that? I think/hope a lot of that weird subcultural gatekeeping is decidedly out of vogue at this point. |
Poptimism is a cancer
|
For a couple of posts there, I wondered "Is this really SYG?"
But now you have come through, SYG. Never change! Never let me down! |

Nah. Pop can be and often is very good. Especially lately. Anti-pop sentiments are gauche as fuck. |
