25 page interview. Amusing.
PM for scans. ![]() |
time used to be that i could not go to work unless i had heard sticks and stones in the morning.
|
No Neck Blues Band are okay. Nothing special. Maybe live it's a different story. And I didn't realize they had a fanatical following, though I guess I should have known since THurston Moore smelled their farts at some point or something.
The one on john fahey's record label is probably their best. (Sticks and Stones I believe) |

im surprised thats how you feel, because theyve done me INCREDIBLE stuff. |
Sure, there are some amazing parts but there are many parts where it just doesn't go anywhere. Not really my thing.

Interesting. I think it's quite perfect they should pick up on that particular book, because if NNCK's is a pagan music, it's one without a fetish for Arcadianism, Earth Mothers and naif-Mithraism. And it's a particularly dangerous book, just because it'd be very easy to use it to sharpen an axe against Chritianity, whereas a name like 'way of the cross' suggests there's something more subtle going on. I'm currently a bit fascinated with the idea of of the stations. But these are probably pretty ridiculous thoughts, and I don't want to give them a context. |
Whoo! Kemialliset Ystavat!
|
Yep, Kemialliset Ystävät rules - already talked about them elsewhere, can't remember.
Alkuhärkä rules, Kiimaniityn Kutsu is my favorite track on there. |
kemialliset are nowhere near the same laegue as nnck, none of those finnish hippies are
|
Am I the only one that noticed this:
PCOMING NOV 1 RELEASE -NNCK "CLOMEIM" new CD and 2xLP on Locust Music. New studio album. Whoop! New nnck record. They've got one coming out on Re Bi Xibalba at some point as well. |
That Way of the Cross record consists of the recording session they did for a radio show linked earlier in this thread. What I've been told by one of the members is that they're sort of bootlegging it, because the broadcaster is being difficult about releasing it (i.e. wants money).
|
Yes! Now all I need is that DVD that was supposed to come out a year ago.
|
it's about time they came back to the UK/europe too
|
Yep to the above two things. Awesome news about the new one being out. I don't know whether I should hold out until the lp is out...uhhh, I'll probably have to get the cd now....
|
I've never seen them live.
|
Quote:
I'll probably eventually get both. The Embryonnck LP had a bunch of music that wasn't on the CD and vice versa. I have a feeling this will be the same. |
Quote:
never speak of them until you have |
Quote:
No kidding I've seen this thread for years and never figured out it was about No Neck Blues Band! I saw them opening for Sun City Girls a few years back, and yes, it was awesome. |
|
nnck is an abbreviation that the band use, it's on their record sleeves and shit
|
This band's pretty alright. When you consider it's mostly improvised, I don't think you're going to find many bands that are better doing free-form stuff; it actually sounds like they have direction!
I really like the one on John Fahey's label. "Qvaris" on the other hand didn't do anything for me. Any reccomendations behind those two? |
Everything really good I've heard from them was on youtube clips and live recordings. On record they are mostly boring.
|
their album with embyo is fantastic. its much less psycodelic ramblings and more acoustic tribal jams. really great. much morelikemstermusicioans of bukake and SCG's than sunburned hand of the man (like they more similar to on other releases)
|
I'm curious what you guys think of the new record (or CD, as it were).
I just got it in the mail today and have listened to it twice already. It's definitely the rockinest thing they've done, even touching on black metal at points. The sound quality is fantastic and their tendency to ramble aimlessly is (more or less) kept in check. Perhaps this will be the one that makes rock starts out of NNCK? Or at least wins over the skeptics? |
new record is amazing!
|
I note the new rec has a track entitled The Ministry of Voices. An Alasdair Gray reference, I hope...

I was hoping to find this in williamsburg today but no luck. |
There's a four page (plus two pages of pictures) feature on NNCK in the February edition of The Wire. It's not so exciting that I'd recommend buying the magazine solely for that article, but then I'm not a huge fan.
|
Did anyone else hear about the fuss with the Dendoshi record? (Keith and Dave from NNCK plus Timo Van Luijk and Raymond Dijkstra) Apparently the nnck chaps went ahead and released it without the others permission much to their annoyance. See here:
http://www.mimaroglumusicsales.com/a.../dendoshi.html Odd. |
![]() ![]() That'd be Vermeer. Wonder if he got credit too? |
I've really enjoyed listening to 'The Large Taquat' lately. It's quite the mindfucking record.

presumabley that's chelsea in new york? |
London is the new Middlesbrough, I notice.
|
I saw them yesterday the first time, it was very good.
I have to state, that I enjoy those songs live I also like on LP und vice versa. (I think I read here months ago, when I stumbled upon this thread before, you don't need their records, seeing them live is sufficient.) |
Unless you live in a backwater place like London, where no bands actually visit. In which case LPs provide the only life-line to a world outside.
|
d. charles speer is fucking amazing.
|
