Jon Spencer is the greatest guitar player on earth (technically speaking)
Let me hear you say YEEAAAHHH !! Quote:
Plus: He doesn't play blues anymore (since quite a long time in fact!), It's only FM easy listening music now. (and a Tribute to Robert Johnson will not fool me.. He does that only to fill his lack of inspiration) Quote:

Trompe Le Monde is the best Pixies album.

i stand corrected. my music teacher in 4th grade really idolized him and brought in a bunch of his stuff, none of which i remember by name. She also called him a minimalist, lol. I might have misjudged him since i was in 4th grade, but i dont really like any of the cage stuff on syr4 either |
i thought minimalist meant that the music is simple and they're very many (if any) over dubs and stuff. am i wrong?

Sort of yes, sort of no. Minimalism is more a genre than a description, but that doesn't stop people getting confused and using the term to describe Morton Feldman, John Cage and Arvo Part as minimalist because their music is sparse - which would probably make Debussy minimalist as well. Sparse is not quite the same as minimal/ist - sparse is more a reflection on the use of space in the music. By contrast, the likes of Glass, Riley and Reich are thought of as 'properly' minimalist composers because the music uses a minimum of notes, dotes on repitition and is often systems based. I think, though I'm sure Noumenal will correct me if I'm wrong, minimalism is more defined by its systems-procedure than by the number of notes used. Gah. That's not very clear. I'll try again later. |

Alternative/ indie music has reached an all time low in the past few years.
My unpopular opinion: Shakira is not that bad. It is a good thing that music from outside the USA and Britain can reach a mainstream audience. ![]() |
Shakira is fucking great. An unpopular opinion would be to say she sounds better in English, because this is the wrong opinion.
Oh, here's a good one, on a similar tip - Tatu are better in Russian. |

haha, agreed |

I hate wrong opinions. |
Like your opinion that Xiu Xiu is good music?

Quote:
Fuck You. Jamie Stewart is amazing. Better than any lame-ass rythmless noise trash. Drone is dead. |
Tell that to the folks in India.
|
I don't speak their language or I would.
|
You are fun to spar with.
That cloud of meth over Willmar is good for something after all. |
I'd rather listening to "lame-ass rythmless noise trash", than a shitty "indie" band like Xiu Xiu.
chuck norris was right when he/she said "Alternative/ indie music has reached an all time low in the past few years." |

Who said you could have an opinion? Quote:

That's awesome. They will slowly start dropping as school gets done with and I start spending more time up there.

Aw man! I was hoping you would reply with another one of your terrific insults. You must be busy listening to Xiu Xiu or giving oral pleasure to some guy.......

Oh, I was.

They say the old ones are the best, don't they? |
Jimi Hendrix is overrated.
John Lennon WAS the Beatles. McCartney be damned. The Cranberries are a good band. Nirvana was the single biggest rip-off band ever. Kurt Cobain was an idiot. Any moron with 2 chords is just a shotgun blast away from being Kurt Cobain. |
A lot of SY songs are based on 2 chords.
|
I realize that, but I'm just saying all you need is 2 chords and a shotgun and yr Kurt Cobain.
|
Kurt Cobain was huge long before he died. He can't help that little kids that weren't even out of diapers when he was making music have made him out to be an even larger "cultural icon" than he already was. Give him a break....and it was 3-4 chords:D
|
well then you shit on 95 percent of all punk music too.

Typically, yes. Vintage is 'in'. |
This one is gonna piss a few people off:
I dont like "In the Court of the Crimson King", Scizoid Man is allright, and the rest is so tedious and overlong, this coming from a guy who likes Yes |
Quote:
I agree totally, but i also hate Yes. I remember my Dad played me Yessongs and said "This was pretty far out back in my day". |
It is unlikely that there will be a better single released this year than Infernal's "From Paris to Berlin".
Go on, take the piss all you like. |
all the talk of yes has made me conjur some more thoughts here we go:
1. mid 70's fusion(return to forever, mahavishnu orchestra, john mclaughlin) was/is extremely influencial and often overlooked by many in the music scene. 2. Hendrix's later recording were much better than his first few. Had he not died he would have cut quite a few records on stax records and helped the american funk movement significantly, actually he did that anyways, but not many people realize it, seeing as they dont listen to any of his demo's or rarities from 69/70. 3. Malcom Mclaren was a thieving bastard. He left the USA with this image of Richard Hell ingrained in his head and sold to kids in the UK. This did not help out the punk scene...it ultimately led to its demise(sex pistols). He made punk a mainstram, commercially viably product to market. Had he not, it would stayed as a bohemian NY scene for quite a while longer. Unpopular opinion or maybe a fact......... |
