Gonna get tested again on Wednesday. And depending on the result, I may or may not visit my old folks in another province for a day or so over the holidays. I'd really rather not, because epidemiologically speaking I see no reason to gather right now. But my father recently had a setback, they discovered another tumor and he's back to radiotherapy. Both my sister and I are like "Yeah, we oughta spend some time with him.". On the other hand, we're like "But we really don't want to unwittingly infect him with anything either". The government has relaxed measures from Dec 24 to Dec 25. Of course they have. So now everyone can be on their merry way spreading that shit nicely. Initially, I was like "Yeah, everyone will understand that this year is probably not the best year to meet up all at once.". Shit's giving me a headache.

At least, the measures will be intact by New Year's Eve again. I see no reason to celebrate that year anyway. It simply didn't earn that honor.

Europe mainland has started to isolate the UK, claiming that it's due to the more infectious Corona variant. I wonder how long it will take them to figure out that we're just fed up with your brexit! :D

Don't get me started on that. An absolute cluster fuck all coming at once for here. If a no-deal Brexit ends up happening then it's only gonna be worse. Woo. Roll on 2021...

In other news, Americans are gonna be getting another $600 payment. 8 months after the last one. That'll help people perfectly. Just as people are literally spending hours queueing to get help from food banks.

We need a revolution.

Insultingly low. There’s literally no place in the country where the average rent is $600 a month.
At least we on the left Can get back to publicly hating Nancy Pelosi again.

you know well mcconnell is the decider though. proposing something like $3k/mo would never fly with him and is therefore pointless.

Savage Clone 12.21.2020 11:30 AM

He is pretty much single-handedly strangling the entire thing, yes. Doesn’t mean MOR Democrats aren’t pretty spineless. But yes, the bowl of butterscotch pudding that some random facial features fell into is definitely the bigger problem.

!@#$%! 12.21.2020 01:17 PM

right. no amount of spine in itself could get him to budge. all they can do is work within the limits that he sets. which are indeed very narrow.

only chance to neutralize him is for democrats to win the senate in georgia. and still it's a thin margin.

Speaking of Vomit Pelosi, remember in 2018 when she called $1,000+ bonuses being handed out by businesses after tax cuts CRUMBS and PATHETIC......but just called the $600 stimulus checks ”significant?"

What America gets for $600

$10 million for “gender programs” in Pakistan???

The Democrats are trying to sell America out, but I look for President Donald TRUMP to VETO the five thousand five hundred page relief package!

I very definitely see your point, yet believe that President Trump will not veto the measure, as bad as it is, as $600 is better than no crumbs from the table at all.

At least the bill contains no Federal bailout for spendthrift Democrat-run cities, which is what Pelosi was stalling for all along.

It's absurd that we're in a situation where Trump wants to give more money than basically anyone else, and nobody's letting him. The one time he'd be inarguably doing good...

Oh, you foolish little Ozzie girl!

We old-timey Mlwaukee Kraut Socialists were quite proud of the BALANCED BUDGETS under which we operated! That's what earned us the respect of Wisconsin's Progressive Republican LaFollette family throughout the 1920's (and beyond)!

READ A BOOK OR TWO, OKAY?

Ah yes, I remember you saying the exact the same when there was a $2 trillion bail out for businesses. Which basically got A LOT of rich cronies A LOT richer. Also remember you saying the same when Trump gave swathes of tax cuts that mainly benefited the already rich. Oh silly me. You never said such a thing.

Now republicans are starting to worry about the U.S debt? Convenient.

Patronising cunt aren't you? Trust me, you're nowhere near as smart as you think.

Just curious what your take on Das Capital Volume I and II was. If you haven't read them then you are talking out of your ass.

Well, your memory doesn't appear to be all that clear, as I stated upon the "Is Trump really a serious contender for the Republican nomination?" thread, in post number 3424, date-and-time-stamped 12.01.2017, 09:58 PM:

"This tax plan is the opposite of what this country needs right now. What is needed is massive public investment in infrastructure (both to create jobs and to repair the effects of neglect over past decades) financed by aggressively progressive income taxation, particularly on unearned income (interest, dividends, etc.). This marks the second great betrayal of Trump's voters this year, the first being his illegal attack on Syria.

This bill eliminates the estate tax, which primarily affects only the wealthiest (an exemption for family owned and operated farms and small businesses could easily have been arranged), and contains a backhanded (though not unconstitutional) slap at Federalism through the elimination of the state and local income tax deduction, which could limit the ability of the several states to raise their own tax revenue. It exacerbates wealth and income inequality in this country, which is our biggest problem right now.

If you want to know where this is headed, look up Governor Sam Brownback's Kansas. Save for the fact that Kansas' massive tax cuts also involved spending cuts, which this bill doesn't, adding about 1.5 trillion to the national debt."

***

So, I admit that I didn't explicity call for a balanced budget upon that occasion, yet the ultimate objective is clear from the language of my post!

Peter Hitchens: "the new face of humanity demanded by the elite is that of a perpetually frightened obedient and emotionless drone".

On that point you are quite correct! In fact, I would truly be honored should I gain the opportunity to stand before your village's electorate as candidate for the esteemed office of "Village Idiot".

Kindly note the following:
