yees, yes, i forgot to answer to this last time but was just looking around calmly at the thread and yes,

the first time i saw groundhog day was ages ago on tv and frankly it bothered the hell out of me for its ideological bent. seemed to be saying “conform,” or something. i mean, sure, the guy was an asshole, needed to be less self-centered and more mellow, but if i recall correctly the cure for his condition seemed to be to just behave like everyone says you should, or something.

anyway, i liked this new version tons more, and would even rewatch right now if i had the time. still chuckling at that bizarro ending parade that was like a midnight mardi gras thing of some sort. absurd and totally unexpected, but in a good way.

Preacher (final season)

Succession (goddamn good)

Finished LEGION (disappeared waaay up its own ass with pretentiousness but still good)

Rob Instigator 08.27.2019 11:17 AM

Legion ending was dope. dug it. had not listened to Floyd's "Mother" since I stopped listening to The Wall to avoid sliding into the deep depressive state that existed in me when I played that album for 3 years straight in my early teens.

Лучше, чем люди Russian sci fi about robots. At first I thought it would just be a copy of Humans, but no, it's pretty good. Unfortunately, it follows many sci fi shows that have music from 2019 playing in contemporary 2060(?) bars. Lame hip hop stuff..... All of us who know music know that it's likely to be very different in 40 years, maybe even unrecognizable? I think they could at least get some very unusual 2019 music instead. Thoughts about this appreciated. This has ALWAYS bothered me.

!@#$%! 08.29.2019 08:20 AM

have not watched a lot of tv lately except for season... 5? of WORKAHOLICS

which is always hilarious and good

Peterpuff 08.29.2019 10:57 AM

Newest Chappelle Netflix special was a full-on laugh riot. Loved it.

Rob Instigator 08.29.2019 12:40 PM

I laughed a ton. The title said it all. sticks and stones. all the backlash seems to me to be nonsense aimed at keeping people from watching it and actually understanding what he was trying to say.

I do hope he decides to shift his routine more to the side of impressions though. They are spot on.

Watched the first episode of The Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance, my 80's sci-fi/fantasy adoring heart enjoyed it.

tw2113 09.01.2019 07:48 PM

I want to watch the original Dark Crystal before I begin any sort of preview.

That said, I did start Supernatural Season 14 this weekend.

Peterpuff 09.03.2019 01:44 PM

Watched through first 3 episodes of The Righteous Gemstones. I am really liking it so far. Not at all what I thought it was going to be. Based on casting and previews, I really thought it was going to be a bit more slapstick Eastbound and Down with religion feeling. This show is actually very dark in its satire. I really get a Coen brothers vibe in it. It totally reminded me of Raising Arizona and Fargo. Very good character driven dark comedy revolving around some pretty fucked up criminal shit. Really good stuff, and Goodman is absolutely AMAZING in it so far. I think this is going to be a great character for him.

Well, you might want to dive deeper into that curiosity, and realize that The Righteous Gemstones might be that Workaholics fix you need on your comedown. Adam DeVine is in it as well.

(mild, mild spoiler) In fact, I am thinking it's another genius move for this show. 2 scenes in, knowing the characters he normally plays and seeing his "street clothes" outfit, you immediately think to yourself "I know exactly who this character is..." And thus far, he is coming off as the most sensible family-oriented, kind-hearted one of the group. Totally flipping the script. Hard to explain, but people familiar with him might understand what I am saying.

!@#$%! 09.03.2019 04:35 PM

adam DeMamp is in it? hahahaha

i glazed my eyes on purpose when i saw “mild spoiler” so as to prevent me from unraveling huge plot points. but yeah i’ll watch....

eta: it’s an hbo show! will bookmark towards a future hbo month (this one isn’t)

Rob Instigator 09.04.2019 09:12 AM

I stopped watching workaholics around season 3. only so much white people getting away with murder at work that I can take.

they’re dumb losers, always failing, and it’s too funny

ilduclo 09.04.2019 09:52 AM

Season 3 of Casa de Papel. On ep 4.

It's good, but it is a bit of a rehash, probably written to extend it past S2 without a lot of thought. I expected it to go in a different direction.

Still, first 2 seasons are some of the best TV I've ever seen and S3 is miles above what is on usually.

this guy is an awesome character!

Probably not a good thing that I identified with the 'emo dykes' the main character was bitching about. (Her words, not mine)

Five months later, we're actually watching it properly. It relies on some immature gross-out humour a bit too much (like one scene featuring a character making a [completely bullshit] drawing of his dad sexually abusing him), and there's one weird scene where a character complains "I'm not going to apologise for trying to be funny" - Chris Lilley is rather divisive, considering that he's still somehow using blackface in 2019.

That said, when it hits its stride there's some really funny bits, and there was a great one when one of his characters stood up at school assembly with her friends to argue for having a formal:
Quote:

Formals are a rare place when everyone can get together. Emos...Asians...Christians...skanks...lesbians...a nd even hot girls like me can all put aside our differences for one night.

I'll try and find it on YouTube tonight for y'all.

Funny you should say that, because I feel like that is exactly what it

Sure, the plot’s different, characters are different, but it’s fucking Eastbound & Down (only with religion!) just like Vice Principals was more-or-less Eastbound & Down (in a School!).

I’ll watch it, and I have been, but the humor is the same, and the writing hasn't evolved much. Surprise, Danny McBride is not the Coen Bros.

Oh well. It will be funny for 2-3 seasons before there’s a year absence between it and Eastbound & Down In Space or whatever, in which Danny McBride plays a southern moron astronaut who wants to be good at his job but isn’t, and hilarity ensues ...

Rob Instigator 09.05.2019 08:27 AM

I finished watching the last episodes of Game Of Thrones yesterday. Boy, what a letdown that last episode was. I know I was warned but still. it's a shame for such an epic series to end it like that.

also, I've been watching a lot of Would I Lie To You? bits and pieces on Youtube, the British version. I think there will be a Dutch version of it soon, but it will probably not be half as good as the Brits do it.
(this is just a random link there are loads and loads of them, but yeah Jimmy Carr is a funny guy)

Severian 10.16.2019 07:54 AM

Succession season 2 just wrapped up.

Goddamn really good show. Just really, really good.

Watchmen coming soon.

I dig him a lot. I get quite a kick out of his specials. I also went down a rabbit-hole of watching his hosted Giant Quiz of Everything shows on Youtube a year or so ago. fun stuff.

I like this show. I literally just started this show a few weeks ago. About 5 episodes in (season 1). Absolutely love Culkin in it. I have not seen him in a whole lot of things, but I feel this character is very similar to his Scott Pilgrim character, and he plays it really well. He nails the "don't give a fuck" narcissist personality.

So true. So true.

Have not seen anyone talking about El Camino yet. I thought it was great. Pretty much exactly everything I wanted it to be honestly. I feel it is getting pretty mixed reviews though. I am interested in the thoughts amongst the Breaking Bad/Saul fans here?

well well well time to eat my words

years ago i tried to watch fleabag and hated the character and even had a recent discussion with h8kurdt about it

but since the show won some emmys (i dont give a shit about emmys so it wasn’t that directly) the woman who wrote it etc appeared on... SNL was it? and i caught a youtube of her little speech saying blah blah etc and then while looking for a show decided, eh, second chance.

i was still not crazy about the character on rewatch of the first episode, but this time i liked the jokes better.

slowly by the end of season 1 i was hooked and now yesterday saw 4 of the episodes with prof. moriarti in them.

brilliant show really, so very well written, and yeah i take back what i said earlier, i take it aaaaaall back. turned out it was a lot more complicated than that.

h8kurdt 10.24.2019 07:35 AM

Haha! Glad you're enjoying it now. There's some solid ideas and writing in it for sure.

I'll admit to having a big g crush on fleabag. That jumpsuit she wears on the restaurant episode? My gahd. That along with the short dress she wears as she's going up to the attic in an episode later on. Oof she got it.

ilduclo 10.24.2019 12:57 PM

fleabag one was great, 2 not as much

Rob Instigator 10.24.2019 01:14 PM

I liked The Amazing Gemstones, but it was not as funny as I expected.

My wife and I have been dealing with a lot of family shit so one of our go to shows to veg out with is Friends. (I watched the first 4-5 seasons back in day day). I never realized exactly how hateful, irredeemable, and self-absorbedly vapid the character of Rachel Green is. I think the only reason it worked is because Jennifer Anniston is so goddamn naturally charming, that it allowed everyone not to just HATE that Rachel bitch.

i... do not see her that way lol. she does have an interesting look though.

i know the sister is supposed to be “hotter” but i don’t see it either hahahaha.

dunno. maybe she surrounded herself with jabronis.

but that’s kinda besides the point cuz im here for the story and the characters. which are brilliant. fucking shit the bro in law i wanna punch him in the throat. the sis—complete wacko. the stepmom—throw her out the window. the poor dad!

yeah wait now that i think of it more she surrounds herself with jabronis lmao. moral ones anyway. she’s “the least terrible” person lolololol. but yeah it’s great writing.
