COol dood. went shoppin'(I bought a raveonettes single) and he got some goods. walked around...went into a crappy bar. Unfortunately we were tethered to the area...but yeh. 'twas awesome.

I'm craving french fries. Not fancy french fries either. Real American McDonalds french fries. Hot, salty. FRENCH FRIES!

One of the Advent speakers blew out last weekend. There was a crackle and then the woofer went out. Luckily I have a repair guy nearby. He oohed and ahhed a bit over the speaker. Apparently I have an original set circa 1973-1975, restored a little over the years, but still with the original woofer and tweeter cones. As it turns out, the lead wires to the voice coil were getting old and brittle and something zapped one of them, causing it to break. Very easy fix, thank goodness, and I'll also now have a set of fuses fixed to the speaker wire as a precaution.

Word of advice if you have treasured vintage speakers: get fuses put on those speaker wires!

Well, I didn't give in to my craving and buy fries. Instead I got a small bag of vinnegar and sea salt chips and a "California" vegetarian wrap. Much healthier choice.

I'm trying to figure out what kind of beer to buy. An abbey dubbel (by New Belgium)? My favorite, Flying Dog Double Dog Pale Ale? Sierra Nevada Big Foot? Duck-Rabbit Barleywine Ale?

I'm into the bigger beers these days. They must be 8 percent or more or they just don't cut it. Flying Dog is a whopping 11 percent! So is the Duck-Rabbit.

Has anyone yet read "The Transition" in this week's New Yorker? Wow. Every time I read about that day, I am moved emotionally. I was only in 3rd grade at the time, but it still stands out so sharply in my memory. The whole world seemed to stand still. My mom and dad cried and were sad for weeks after. It was November and cold and gray. I remember all the adults looking like they were in shock.

I keep thinking how different things might have been if that hadn't happened.
