Midnight In Paris Not one of my favorite Woody Allen movies. I read somewhere that this movie made the most money in theatres. I'm not the biggst Owen Wilson fan outside of his work in Wes Anderson films, and movies like "The Cable Guy" which is basically saying movies where he is not the lead. Think Owen Wilson works best in supporting roles or his delivery gets old fast.

I don't doubt that it was just a case of me being in the wrong mood for it. I was almost certainly being too harsh giving it a 6. More generally, I think it's likely that we've already seen the best of Lynch. I can't think of any filmmaker whose managed to sustain a peak of creativity throughout the entire length of their career. So the more interesting question for me isn't what Lynch will do next but who's entering their own peak of creativity right now. Nobody immediately springs to mind but there's bound to be someone waiting in the wings. |
new sherlock holmes, pretty good!

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocal I thought it was a fun action movie. I saw it in IMAX.

Razor Blade Smile (1998) Needed more gun fights, longer dream sequences, and would've benefited plenty from some actual nudity. Too many godawful day-for-night sequences....bleck - wretched, disorienting piss/10 Zarkorr! The Invader (1996) Cool-lookin monster, and awesome cheesy effects. I wish there were more of 'em. Decently amusing overall - it made me chuckle a bunch of times. You pretty much know what you're getting when you watch this one. Or at least you think you do, until you see this... Reminds me of Dollman vs. Demonic Toys. Aaaahh... that's better. |

A true favorite. The rape scene traumatized me when I rented it as a kid. Awesome stuff; my favorite X-mas slasher. |

Zabriskie Point. Not a very good one, but, the Pink Floyd music is great. And the end of the movie memorable.

Damn! I really really wanna see that. Was it any good? Anyway, watched last night: Get Shorty (6/10) Giving this a six obviously means I was far too harsh on Mulholland Dr. Anyway, not that great but I love Elmore Leonard so it's more for his dialogue than anything else. |
yeah pretty good, lots of insights from former colleagues/aides and the like.
not a person to be fucked with apparently! |
Rebirth of Mothra (1996)
A bunch of really good monster fights, OUTSTANDING effects, and it was just so damn colorful and wacky! I couldn't have been more pleased/engaged - even the parts with singing were fun. |
Mulholland Dr. (8/10) I watched it again, convinced the last time I saw it I was in the wrong mood. I was right. It's as good as I originally remembered it - although obviously not a movie for any occasion. It's pointless complaining about Oscars but how Halle Berry won the award for best actress that year while Naomi Watts wasn't even nominated is a total travesty (IMO). Also saw this this morning: Be Cool (3/10) I only watched this because it came it came with the Get Shorty boxed set. I didn't really like Get Shorty and for about fifteen minutes I thought this might actually be an improvement but it soon descended into a series of already tired cliches about the rap music industry and some pointless musical numbers featuring cameos from the likes of Steven Tyler. The only vaguely entertaining aspect was provided by The Rock, playing a bodyguard with issues about his sexuality. But even that joke wore thin before the end. |
Definitely Burton's best. Upon revisiting it, I realize it actually is better than Batman Returns, which is poorly storyboarded, though the Penguin is almost as radical and terrifying as Ledger's Joker. |

Fucking lovely! |

Anchorman the legend of ron burgundy. Will Ferrell can't act his way out of a paper bag. Christina Applegate and to a lesser extent Paul Rudd are both bright spots. They are, in fact, on a different level. Fred Willard is his usual unfunny self. And Steve Carrell? I thought that guy was so funny on The Daily Show, and found him so unfunny since. This is no exception.
All in all, another unfunny comedy in a decade (or more) of unfunny comedies. |
Is Sonic Sphere sneaking into my house and borrowing all my DVDs?
