I'd add Shivers. It's probably my fave of all his films. I really don't understand why it has such a low profile, even with a lot of Cronenberg fans.

totally fun and worth watching. not a "masterpiece" but a good time.

Chumlum

Ron Rice doesn't seem to have the same profile as Anger or Warhol or Jack Smith but I definitely think Chumlum puts him up there.

The full 20 minute film is here ...

I don't want to influence your expectations but I hated it. The movie’s only redeeming qualities are JD's posterior and the scenes where he hides behind some rocks and bushes in the countryside.* Other than that I found this movie super tedious and I had to watch it in two takes to get to the end because I fell asleep the first time.

* Most homoerotic thing I have ever said on this forum.

I'm not that surprised, to be honest. I'll still watch it just out of curiosity but, yeah, I wasn't expecting anything great from it. Of all the superstars associated with Warhol, I probably find Joe Dallesandro the least interesting. The others all had overblown personalities that could usually help carry even the most mundane films but JD struck me as being no more than a sex symbol really.

He's always been Paul Morrissey's creature. Warhol only liked his good looks and PM had a thing for his cinematic face. I understand where he comes from with that but the guy is a terrible actor, and he just looks good on camera, no good acting skills whatsoever. I took him off my friends' list on FB a few years ago, when he didn't have a fan page proper which wouldn't bombard my news feed with his terrible taste in everything and old skool attention seeking. Good riddance. He does have an incredible arse though, I have to admit. :)

I just watched that recently after it being a forbidden fruit of my childhood in the rated R section of my favourite videostore. Excellent film! James Spader =

Art School Confidential seems like something I would like. Good?

The Man Who Stole the Sun 太陽を盗んだ男 (1979)

I'm pretty sure AtSonicPark recommended this to me. Fantastic film! Bless the man, where ever he is!

Perfectly put. He did have an incredible face but never the personality to carry a film. Quite unusual for a Superstar. As you say, he looks good on camera. In another age he'd have probably made his fortune as a catwalk model but he really doesn't work in film. Saying that, he was probably ideal for Warhol's Screen Tests, although I've never seen any that he might've done. It's disappointing really, that of all the Superstars, it was the least interesting and talented one who probably had the biggest career post their connection with Warhol.

EDIT: Besides Mary Woronov, who I absolutely love.

Scorpio Rising

Still for me one of the best things ever.

I know exactly what you mean. I quite liked it the first time I saw it but watching it again recently I started to think, this really is just Ryan Gosling for two hours.

EVOLghost 07.14.2012 09:38 AM

Toy story 3 is on....never got to watch it.....

demonrail666 07.14.2012 02:39 PM

What did you think of Baron Blood?

Just watched ...

Seasons

A short animation from Yuri Norstein. A kind of Russian fairy tale. It sounds dismissive to call a film 'lovely' but that's the only way I can describe it. And I'm definitely not dismissing it.

Full ten minute film here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnvuw29Tc28

Watched it for the first time. I don't get it.

Count Mecha 07.15.2012 01:06 PM

Haha oh sorry. Friday the 13th.

Count Mecha 07.15.2012 01:15 PM

That indeed was the one I was referring to. I guess I'm not the audience for these types of movies though. So I only have myself to blame. I didn't really like Halloween either. But I fucking love Phantasm, but that's not really the same kind of movie.
