Everything is rated based on "for what it is" standards. So, the SY EP, though not really a better album than, say, Eternal, gets a higher score because of its consistency. No bad songs.

Really, there are times when I think they're each perfect in their own way, like Beatles albums. How do you compare HELP! to the White Album? They're both 10's in completely different ways.

SY has, in my opinion, the best track record in rock history.

Yeah you´re right. In Beatles differences between early and later records are even bigger as they´re in Sonic records, but they´re all great!

I'm going to change my Washing Machine rating to 8/10.

No, it's not my favorite. One of my least favorites actually, but it has some incredible songs, and very few bad spots. For SY it's not perfect, but by normal standards it's a monolith.

Jesus... there are a lot of not-very-consistent SY fans here. I'm seeing a lot more 5's and 6's than I would expect.

I just didn't expect to see so many low scores. I figured most of us would love at least 90% of their albums, disliking 1 per person at most. I'm not judging, or saying we should all love everything. Just surprised a bit.

But I shouldn't have said "inconsistent". You're right, that's not the right word at all.

To me the point is, how good album is. But on the other hand, I listen very much albums that I think they´re good.

It´s great to see how favourites and non-favourites differs almost each one. I think that proofs how great band SY is.

I know what you mean man, I think the difference between this kind of poll and an, ahem, 'serious' poll by journalists in a magazine is that ones on a board are wholly subjective whereas magazine ones are striving for objectivity: for you to give EVOL a 10 would be trying to do the objective bit, but I say fuck it and rate on a personal scale. I'm the same with that one: I get it was hugely significant and timeless, but I don't think it's quite on the same level as Sister and DDN despite received wisdom.

But the thing with SY is that there are different song writers with, at times, hugely contrasting styles: my low rating for ATL is because the Kim songs on it are shite. She has done some cracking stuff - Kissability is the sexiest anti-sexism song ever, hands down - but each writer appeals to different people and each writer has personal peaks and troughs of quality. Hence DDN being the 'perfect' SY album - all 3 writers were on killer form throughout. Hence the chap a couple of messages back saying his fave track is Rain on Tin (good call btw) but that Murray Street as a whole is a 7.
