I can relate. Not now of course, but last night.

Why oh why did one of my friends order me a drink of this stuff:

Along with something just as rancid, but I'm not certain what it was. AWFUL. I can still taste it.

Ah, Glice. I love you.

porkmarras 01.13.2007 01:59 PM

Sir Excellence strikes again.Thank you.I'm converting some tapes of Sardinian folk music that my mum gave me and i'll post them when finished.

porkmarras 01.13.2007 02:04 PM

I fucking love you Glice! This is beautiful stuff.Pauly sent me some good irish music that i wish he would post on here or i'll do it at one point.Whos's this fantastic singer?

Glice 01.13.2007 02:25 PM

According to the sleeve, it's a lady called Mary-Ann Roberts, but I'm going to assume that it's actually Robert Evans who's singing on the first track. Unfortunately, they've put a lot more information in Welsh on the CD than they have in English, so it's not entirely clear.

Music from Greenland

If I could ask with the above one, please don't distrubute this to the whole world and their dog. I shouldn't really be upping it, I very much doubt that very many would care but if I upped the whole record and someone bootlegged it then I could get in a lot of trouble with some thoroughly nice people.

I have no more information on the recording itself than that it's Greenlandish (?).

The little Sparrow. If you're not aware of her, you should be. She's ace.

Just watch and listen this incredible Mongolian musician and cry in disbelief.

This further confirms my belief that the art of a good musician lies in the right hand rather than the left. He's incredible. I'm going to start playing another instrument this year, and the choices are an Er-hu or Uillean pipes. This video is pushing the case for an Er-hu a great deal.

The case against Er-Hu

More from Mongolia

Glice 01.21.2007 10:07 AM

Shamisen duo Although I must say that there's something I'm not too fond of about pentatonic scales.

Solo Tabla, anyone?

Munir and (son) Omar Bashir

I read about the above in a Haino interview where he said he was one of the few people who he'd like to work with. Haino, as usual, is entirely right. He's fucking awesome.

Its been much too long since I have added anything (mostly due to laziness, and my computers social problmes) and I do have a great deal to share sometime soon. This should tide you all over until then.

My friend Emmanuel, of Nigeria sent me a song today to my delight, and I've got a feeling the lot of you world music listeners will enjoy it too. Of course I could be wrong. Let me know, comrades.

From the e-mail:
check out this short but great display of expertise in the use of traditional instruments like maracas, flute.guitar etc. by our own Sir Victor Uwaifo.
He is at present a Prof. at the University of Benin, Nigeria.
try saving the file before playing...cheers

i will give you a brief of what the music is talking about soon.

Of course he never did tell me what the song was about... That isn't a problem in this thread, however.

In the e-mail he asked if in return I could send tracks from Kenny Rogers and Jim Reeves, as it is very hard to find material from those artists in Nigeria. Odd, very odd.

Пятхъдесят Шест 02.02.2007 08:47 PM

Great. This is making my night a little worth while.

Also, in case anyone wanted some follow up to the Nigerian song I posted a few days ago, it seems as though its a about a young boy, who is not doing his school work, and so his teacher flogs him. The boys father (who is a boxer) is enraged by this, and goes after the teacher.

Great, right? I'm drinking by myself, a total drunk? Yes or no?

Glice 02.02.2007 09:20 PM

NO. No way. I was drinking by myself earlier but the night... has changed...somewhat. [thanks, fortuity]

You're not a drunk until you have nothing but drink, and even then you're not a drunk until you only get drunk because it's what you do rather than what you choose to do.

Пятхъдесят Шест 02.02.2007 09:24 PM

That is completely reassuring.

Ah, now I can have another drink without feeling guilty. And this is a good thing, as they are extra special tonight.

I could attempt to upload the promised Cuban material as well.

Toilet & Bowels 02.02.2007 09:36 PM

i'm trying to upload a track from Sounds Of The Indian Snake Charmers but badongo is being crap

Пятхъдесят Шест 02.02.2007 09:38 PM

So use You Send It.

A suggestion.

Glice 02.02.2007 09:51 PM

Excellent work Mr & Bowels. The great Lord Procrastinatron would be proud.
