considering a proton mail account right now, but concerned about single location locking me out in case of server failure/disaster/whatever.

but im talking about an email provider. currently have gmail addresses, but gmail scans your shit. sure, i have to pay for the resources somehow, but my privacy is not my preferred form of currency. would switch to google business but don't know if they still scan... hmmm... proton mail is VERY interesting but since it's hosted in a single location any small catastrophe could lock me out of connectivity (e.g. large hadron collider meltdown, lmao). |

Saw something like this happen at a high school Pep Rally. Some cheerleader rugged up her ankle fell and no one else noticed. The cheerleader in front of her back flipped onto the face of the hurt girl. Anyway...the whole gym cheered. Anyway...awkward!

flipped onto her face and the gym cheered?

hey what is this diet coke post comething completely irrelevant thread

Didn't know which other thread to post this in, because it's not entirely political, but a little fun aside to a conversation started in the Politcs Thread:
I was actually interviewed by a German queer-themed YouTube channel yesterday. People were enamored with the cart my group was driving around. And it was my turn at the pedals when I was approached by a guy with a mic. My voice was incredibly hoarse at the time and I kind of shout-talked my way through it, because there was a speaker right behind me blasting fucking loud Post-Punk. I had to really concentrate to actually hear the interviewer's questions, but it worked after initial complications. That's why I look so stern, I think. Honestly, that channel's noise-cancelling recording equipment and/or editing is pretty sophisticated. But it came out alright, all in all. A small convo about the "spookiness" of the cart (four-seater rickshaw, actually) at 2:03 (translated): Interviewer: And why is there a dangling skull? I'm a bit scared. Me: It's a bit spooky, right? I mean, it's just aesthetics. We call this the "Munster Mobile" here. It's not to be taken all too seriously, we just like spooky aesthetics. And a little mission statement at 6:05 Me: We're taking part at the parade today, because we are a pretty diverse group. Among us you'll find all kinds of preferences, of gender identities [...] and we just want to represent the Goth, Punk and Post-Punk fraction here. There's also a nice little pan on the group and the mobile at 2:50 - sans my awkward hoarse voice. A good friend had asked me beforehand, whether her small group of witchy cosplayers could join us - the person holding up the banner is part of that group. Not a fan of the immediate cut to the Neoliberal Party of Austria after the first interview section, but what can you do? They drew the lot two spots behind us during the starting number raffle last month, so they were closeby and had a huge inflatable flamingo - that draws the media's attention. To put it in American terms - they are somewhat Libertarian-lite - though maybe a bit more vocal about basic social issues. Hyper-capitalist though. Last year, The Green Party was right behind us. Addendum: But I'm happy they also decided to lend a voice to the group remembering those who were killed for their queerness during the Nazi-regime at 7:36. "Never Forget" the banner up front reads. It's a good thing the format didn't shy away from this more somber discourse. It's important to remember. |
Keep your children away from social media

(not sure if this is relevant or irrelevant but the irrelevant thread is inaccessible, so that's why it's relevant)
will be traveling to the US for work, to Maryland to be exact, by the end of July. Was thinking about staying longer for a week or so for a holiday, and visit my family that live in Connecticut nowadays. But it turns out that at the same time that I'm there they will be celebrating their holiday over here in Europe. So now I'm not sure anymore what to do. Could go to DC or New York or something, but not really looking forward to hectic environments ... Kind of broke to as well, spend a lot of money on the new kitchen :) |

nyc is a zoo and prices are nuts and it's hectic. but if in md i could recommend some quieter places dc is mostly a sleepy town, especially in the summer. yes, the capitol area will be full of tourists in the summer, but they rarely venture any further, and you could enjoy the regular parts of the town, which are walkable/bikeable and (to me) delicious. also decent public transportation. and maybe you catch a show baltimore is way cheaper and i've spent a couple of very pleasant summers there. some high crime areas, but it's not all "the wire". some great seafood markets and places to eat, music venues, etc for proper summer relaxation head to annapolis and the eastern shore, which is all the cheasapeake bay. also the actual coast, on the atlantic. ocean city is a big tarted up place, but assateague island is a nice little wild beach with feral ponies and stuff. if you go, the state park is the quiet area; the national park has more campers etc beaches will be jampacked in the weekends so definitely avoid. but weekdays, while still crowded, will be more manageable. ont the road there there are farms, fruit and pie stands, outlet shops, etc. delaware is also accessible ("delmarva" peninsula is a thing) and you can catch a ferry to cape may nj, which is the nice old timey part of the otherwise trashy (lol) jersey shore what else... if heading inland instead you could hike to the source of the potomac river--quite a trip! halfway there it's harpers ferry wv, a tourist trap for civil war lovers the dc museums are all free btw, if you want art or history or sciency stuff at low cost. but again the mall will be packed with tourists, lmao. still, free is free... there is an interview with the maryland governor on bloomberg where he tsls with david rubenstein about md has "world class" experiences all within 2 hours... lml... https://www.bloomberg.com/news/video...es-moore-video -- this is not an "arts and leisure" interview though but it's what i consume these days and so... oh! you could watch a boring baseball game and drink overpriced watery beer as well at camden yards. also! https://wikitravel.org/en/The_Wire_Tour. (but sure to offer some dangers, lol. would not go there alone) not sure if you'll be driving (you need to drive to the beach etc) but there is commuter train service between dc and baltimore, plus regular train (and buses) to philly and nyc (philly another option that will be priced cheaper than new york) |
