Glace (with an accent legue) French series, absolutely great cinematography. Soundtrack so/so. Acting is fantastic. Writing OK. sorta a recco, if only for those who love good acting and cinematography. Plus, French girls ;)

been dealing with a very minor flu (?) so this has given me the opportunity to binge on season 2 of marco polo which so far has been awesome

Severian 09.03.2017 12:23 PM

So True Detective season 3 is officially happening. With Mahershala Ali from Moonlight and House of Cards. Will take place in the Ozarks (like that show... Ozark... which is actually very good, but will likely be forgotten).

It's happening. I'm excited.

Still totally stuck in the Americans (midway though season 3) and holy Jesus on the cross, it just gets heavier and heavier. I feel, watching, as though it's sure to explode any second.

don't worry, americans will keep twisting your innards ha ha ha

aaaaaand marco polo was fantastic, but fuck me, it got cancelled and 2 seasons is all we'll have

apparently critics didn't like it or some such shit. or audiences weren't watching much or who knows.

too many asians for general appeal or something? what da fuc man.

but anyway, great epic show with awesome action (tits, ass, blood & gore, kung-fu and more) that i hope will be revalued in the future. war and political intrigue and cgi horses on fire is a win in my book (ok that cgi didn't look that great, but still).

srsly this kublai & his court make frank underwood look like an innocent child

fucking shit. i wanted more of it. the show looked great.

Oh I thought you knew it was canceled. That's happened to a few of the Netflix series. They either go viral like House of Cards and OITNB and the Marvel shows, or they seem to fizzle. Master of None is an exception, I guess.

I'm hoping that doesn't happen with OZARK, which was already being written off before it even preomiered (Jason Bateman in a drama was, I guess, too much for some to fathom?) but it's really goddamn good.

Actually, the girl who plays "Kimmy" in the Americans is a main character. And she's very good. Talented young actor, handed one hell of a role in OZARK, which she absolutely nailed. Even if the show dies off (oh please no!) I have a feeling she'll be just fine.

!@#$%! 09.03.2017 01:44 PM

no i didnt know. i quit watching a couple years ago due to move. went looking for news on season3 and blam-- it was just cancelled last december.

either way worth the watch. french ending i guess.

reason non-viral shows can continue is if they cost little. which wasn't the case with this mega-production. the spectacle alone is worth the view. download as high resolution as you can for maximum effect (porn & otherwise).

Apropos of nothing, Rome was a really good show we both liked watching. I loved the historical quality of it, but it also focused on two sometimes-friends and their trials & tribulations.

I heard it was a very expensive show to produce though, and not enough people watched it to justify the cost. It's a dang shame.

ilduclo 09.03.2017 02:04 PM

another French series, Ceux de 14. Follows a group of soldiers from the beginning of WW 1. It's really good, recco ++

Oh man, you're not kidding.

Is it just me, or is Agent Beeman's wife (Sandra?) just... like... horrible?
I get that he fucked up really bad, over and over and over, but — there are some extenuating circumstances she doesn't seem interested in. Also, she's horrifying. The idea of being married to her actually scares me.

Wouldn't mind seeing her eat it. Also Martha. Goddamn Martha story has me on CONSTANT EDGE. AAAAHHH.

ah, rome was so fucking great!

damn shame indeed

Well, OZARK is exquisitely filmed and well-edited and acted, but should be cheap as all hell to make, comparatively speaking. No special effects, only one real setting. So maybe it will survive.

Watch OZARK, guys. Jason Bateman is actually really good at this kind of shit. It's as seamless a fit as Bryan Cranston was for Breaking Bad. Plays on his cadence and relatability and wit as a comedic actor and flips it, and it really works! He's honestly kind of a pleasure to watch, as is Laura Linney as his badass wife.

Someone watch the thing.

SORRY!! I thought you'd seen it all! :(

No spoilers. Promise. I just don't like that wife of Stan's.

I'm halfway through season 3, and I'm going to be done with it probably some time this week. I've been binging. AND it's a holiday tomorrow, so... *dances*

!@#$%! 09.03.2017 03:15 PM

It's been a few weeks now since I finished it. I think I had a few minor qualms with the dialogue at times, but nothing that left a lasting mark. Can't even remember what now.

I think Bateman was really on point. His character actually reminded me a lot of someone I know. Not the criminal element, but basically everything else. So the character struck true.

.

no probs with the dialog, so to speak, however the writing left a lot to be desired, particularly regarding the dope angle. Just hard to imagine that the people running the show wouldn't actually have consulted with anyone who had any experience in anything related to that. Just some idiotic unbelievable stuff.
go figure, I guess you only have to look at all the "terrorist" and "reality tv" shows on to see where they are coming from. Hard to see why they get any pay for some of it, sheesh.

Forinstance, poppies are grown in poor countries They do so because it's very labor intensive. So, not in the US. Also, the idea that there could be commercial illegal opium production in the US is moronic. Most rural areas of the US are overflown for drug production interdiction at least once a week. So, huge fields of flowering poppies? Yeah....

That didn't even occur to me. But... I do know that poppies grow in a lot of places and environments. In the spring and summer, at least. US winters wouldn't help, I guess, but it happens when the weather is right.. Really, they popped up in enough alleyways and vacant lots and peoples' yards to keep some of my friends very high on poppy tea in college. No joke. There was rarely a shortage, and it was a very popular thing. Some particularly industrious friends even learned how to actually harvest the opium (scoring the bulbs, drying the milky stuff... whatever, I'm actually not sure) but I can't say if they did it correctly because I never tried the stuff they made. But the tea sure did work.

Also, I'm pretty sure it's legal to grow poppies in the US. It's just not legal to harvest them. People quibble about which poppies are opium poppies and which aren't, and all I know about that is that... well... the tea always worked, whether the bulbs came from a Whole Foods or an alley. It's been 15 years, of course, and I'm no expert, but it's maybe somewhat plausible? I don't know. I guess it does seem far-fetched. The US is not where actual heroin is harvested in bulk. It's probably possible, but for the flyover thing.
