The God Gene

my beautiful anthropology teacher loaned it to me tonight after a discussion from last week's class. I want to make this woman have an affair.

i have slapstick in my collection, but havent read it yet. I love vonnegut, but right now im taking a break from him. I read cats cradle, rosewater, dr kevorkian (which was hilarious), and slaughter-house five pretty much back to back. hes one of my favorite writers, but I need to read others

Leibniz's Theodicy and Homer's The Odyssey. It's almost uncanny.

I bought Trainspotting today and started The Hobbit last night.

Edit: Trainspotting is very difficult to read. All the Scottish slang and dialectic

Yeah, I stopped reading Trainspotting midway through. I might give it another try soon.

I managed 11 pages in 30 minutes. I'll get through it in about a week I guess...

I never get tired of Vonnegut, he's simply so entertaining and enjoyable.

Now reading The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene.

I finished The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes today and also read two short parodies of Holmes penned by Conan Doyle. That puts me as having read all the canonical Holmes works, I do believe. Also I managed a whopping 6 pages of Trainspotting before getting pissed off at loud people in the library. Next I believe I'll start either Lamb by Christopher Moore or perhaps something else. I think I might read Watchmen again...even though it's only been a couple of weeks or maybe pick up the 3 League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Sonic Youth 37 01.26.2009 07:51 PM

Okay, I'm finished buying books for a while.

Today's haul:
Beyond Good and Evil - Friedrich Nietzsche
American Psycho - Bret Easton Ellis
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal - Christoper Moore

I just recently finished W.O. Mitchell's "Who Has Seen The Wind". It's a pretty good book, kind of boring. It's about a young boy growing up in Saskatchewan in the late 19th/ early 20th century (not sure). He faces the hardships, and adventures of life. It's a pretty good book. But I've read better.

afterthefact 01.27.2009 12:09 PM

I'm definately getting some Vonnegut next, because I have heard so many good things about him. If I am let down, you all will pay :)

I have had little time to read in the past week, so I am only like 130 pages into The Count of Monte Cristo, but it is a really good story. Like I said before, not a brain twisters, just pure entertainment.

SonicBebs 01.27.2009 03:58 PM

trainspotting is worth the work. you'll be fluent after a couple chapters, ken?

Every time I come to this thread and see this post, it just sounds awkward. I think my mind puts an 's after Moby.

_slavo_ 01.27.2009 04:04 PM

I've finished "South of the border, west of the sun" by Murakami yesterday.
Next one to hit will probably be "Demian" by Herrmann Hesse. It's been waiting for me on the shelf for quite a while.

So, Lamb was fucking hilarious. Now that I'm done with that, I'm going to try to catch up for my class by finishing The Hobbit this weekend because we start Fellowship next week. Hopefully I can continue reading Trainspotting and start American Psycho next week as well.
