When the first ep came out I checked my Prime and it looked like they were doing a week-to-week release after the first 2 episodes or something, so I decided to hold out for a binge. But then a week or so later I checked again and everything was there. Weird. Anyway I’ve forgotten a lot too. Haven’t actually watched any of S4 yet |
I’ve been watching a bit of Bob’s Burgers finally
Also: • The Dropout on Hulu about Elizabeth Holmes. Good show. • Some of Impeachment: American Crime Story, which is not a good show but probably has some important messages about the harassment some women endured as a result of right-wing efforts to force Clinton into resignation. I mean society was cruel beyond belief to Lewinsky. I’m not sure that would fly today, which is a good thing • When I’m bored I’ll put on Psych. No clue why. It’s not great but I hear it gets better. The fact that it’s a loose Sherlock Holmes homage makes me somewhat keen to see how it unfolds. So far very “mid-2000s on the USA channel” but we shall see |

but picking it up after so long felt disconnected, so i went back to s1e1-- highly rewatchable, still addictive, totally worth it. - btw, for a bored usa thing... i've watched all of burn notice... twice, lmao. once when it was out, once years later. it often verges on the ridiculous but it's always fun. |
Quote:
I used to watch a bit of Burn Notice from time to time. |
Quote:
the supporting characters are great. bruce campbell as sam axe is hilarious, and violence-prone gun-toting fiona <3 <3 <3 how can i put it... it's not "great tv," but i like having those characters around. ![]() ![]() ![]() hahahaha |

totally understand. That’s how I feel about the movie The Family Man with Nicolas Cage. Probably not a great film but I’m so glad it exists |

=== anyway, the thing i've watched most recently on "tv" is an amazon original from argentina. it made me laugh my ass off. ![]() PORNO Y HELADO aka "porn and ice cream". when i dared played the first episode i thought i was gonna cringe, but no, i laughed from the start, and didn't stop. it's very fucking good. so i ended up watching all 8 episodes this week. some things will be lost in translation for people unfamiliar with the culture and the music, but the subtitles have actually undergone a fair amount of adaptation to reach english-speaking audiences. gonna copypaste the tagline now: "Two socially-awkward thirty-somethings and a young con woman start a rock band that takes the Buenos Aires music scene by storm. " anyway it's not quite that (it wasn't to me anyway, because it's heavy on irony, satire, parody, and sheer absurdity) but that gives you an idea of the setting for this thing. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14369952/ |
watched 1 and 1/2 seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm. It curbed my enthusiasm for the show.
Only funny like 10% of the time. The rest is the endless complaints of an entitled rich white guy with nothing to do but allow his neurosis to affect everyone around him. Like watching Costanza without Jerry, Elaine or Kramer. a fucking nightmare really. |
ok, so, i mentioned this shit in the movies thread, there's this new(ish) anime that appeared on amazon in... january?
![]() i held back for a while and finally gave it a chance... the first couple of minutes of the first episode are really idiotic, and then surprise, it becomes hilarious. i had almost turned it off! and then blam, ok, you have me laughing, i'm watching the rest. it's basically a sword and sorcery (and primitive guns) adventure, but well-peppered with foul language and sex and jokes that make it entertaining for adults. the story is ok, it's just a story; but the comedy is for me the best part, so it was good fun to relax at the end of the workday. the voice actors who do this also stream their d&d games on their website... but i'm not into that sort of shit (i know because i tried). the scripted stuff however is good. |
Quote:
Yeah I thought this was what it was. |
Quote:
anyway did you see vox machina? did it work for you or nah? -- eta: looks like the d&d game is the sour mash and vox machina is the whiskey... i don't drink sour mash (does anyone?) but i like whiskey. distillation ftw. |

I have not seen it, I’ve just heard about it. I know nothing about that world. But if you like it maybe I’ll check it out |
Better Call Saul is back on so I’m gonna start the final season when I have a sec.
Also been loving Atlanta (thank god it’s back). |

i like a short comedy apéritif before sitting down for a drama. probably a habit ingrained from network tv schedules. and it works? |
watched the end of OZARK.
Also, the first 3 eps of Better Call Saul... |

semi-bingeing on "community".
watched it on and off when it came out, but i'm liking it more now in complete sequence, which helps understand some details better. it's kind of insane now that back in the day (lol) tv shows had something like 25 episodes per season. i don't know who does that now. |
Watched the final season of Killing Eve.
Crazy to the very end. |
more "community", and i've been tracing the origins of rick and morty in this show? in season 3 the parallels are already in full bloom.
|
Winning Time, the HBO Show about the early Magic Johnson era Lakers, is very good. Adam McKay, don’tcha know. It’s apparently historically inaccurate but I never assumed it was gospel, so I don’t mind. Very Adam McKay.
Barry is back so I’ve watched some Barry. Not caught up. Saving Atlanta episodes for sometime when I can binge the last handful. Almost done with Ozark. Haven’t actually been watching much TV; maybe 30-45 minutes max in a day. And not every day. |
the original kids in the hall as prelude to watching the amazon reboot. which is also original, i mean, same cast just older.
![]() ![]() there's a weird situation on amazon where it looks like you're required to have amc+ to watch it, but when you look at the seasons, the episodes included on prime video (*all of them*) are listed side by side with the amc ones. very confusing lol. but findable. |
Restarted Stranger Things in anticipation for the new season.
|
Finished Atlanta season 3 finally.
Trying to stay caught up on Barry and Better Call Saul but I’m at least 1 episode behind on both (both shows are darker than ever this season, which I was expecting but it makes it a little less fun). Everyone pray for Kim Wexler! |
severian! no spoilers!! :D
|
Quote:
Did I do a spoiler? I’m way behind on the show so I don’t think I did. But anyone who’s seen Breaking Bad knows that a certain beloved Better Call Saul character isn’t in that show, which has begged the question for years. That’s all I’m saying. |

There's a Mexican joint in my neighborhood which serves it as an optional side alongside refried beans or rice. A unique pairing, but also unironically both the best cole slaw and Mexican food in town. ![]() ![]() |
Barry season 3 had a great episode on Sunday
Better Call Saul season 6, part 1 ended with a son-of-a-bitch of a cliffhanger and I’m PISSED |
Our Flag Means Death at the moment

Watched the first episode of that but wasn’t totally sucked in. How is it? |
Not one that i'm completely gushing over, but still found it decent in the end. I am glad to hear that it is getting a lot of praise for LGBTQA representation

Just finished my first completely conscious run of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Used to watch it on TV as a wee one, but it went completely over my head then. Overall, really compelling and much more even/consistent in quality than TNG. I liked all the shades of gray in how the protagonists' actions were portrayed. And the whole intergalactic intrigue/Dominion plot was very compelling (also unfortunately a bit too close to the current international situation, sans Alien lifeforms, of course).
One thing I didn't care for is the preoccupation with the 'Prophets' towards the end. Sisko was an interesting enough character already. There was no need for that sudden shift to quasi-deification. His full acceptance of the whole deal also kind of came out of nowhere after being skeptical/aloof about it for the most part of the series run. Anyway, really strong and nuanced show. I can see why it has such a favorable standing amongst Trek series. |

wife and I rewatched Breaking bad (fast forwarding through the endless Skyler scenes) and thenre-watched El Camino.
we have been enjoying the finale of Better call Saul. We need a new show, preferably one on Netflix. Any suggestions? |

netflix show hm rrrrrrrrr lemme think... you seen witcher i presume? first season was great i have to catch up with the rest. best thing i saw there in a while. eta i have not had netflix since... 2019? but i will add more between these lines: -------- +orange is the new black had its good moments, at times it was annoying others depressing others a cartoon and at some point i quit watching but worth the initial look +russian doll. i loved russian doll. season 1 anyway, i heard there were gonna be more +house of cards. it was fucking brilliant. then it got mauled by a cough cough change of cast but o well +severian likes ozark, i never saw it (i'd say too many drug dealers after breaking bad, give it a breather?) +i've heard good things about queen's gambit but idk in person +oh! the last kingdom was a bit of cheesy entertainment with some distorted historical reference mixed in. but i liked it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ +bojack! holy fuck, bojack was great. hilarious, depressing, heart wrenching, contemptible, poetic, enraging, everything +was "salt, fat, acid, heat" on netflix? i think so, very good 4 part docu with samin nosrat. it will make you HUNGRY +the stand up comedy specials are great, plenty of choices according to taste +glow started great then in turned meh but some great laughs before they killed it +was kimmy schmidt unbreakable or unbearable? the latter for me... too many forced jokes, idk, that style of comedy is spent for me now .. i mostly don't like netflix now, it has become stupider as it grew in popularity, but every couple of years or so i like to rent it for a month and see what i've missed. looking forward to a bit more of witcher's comedic ultraviolence. ------- meanwhile: Quote:
