Out The Door (from new Blank Dogs) is such a cool track. It reminds me of Kirby's Adventure for the NES, same with Northern Islands. Some of the vocals sound like lame garbage though.
|
Blank dogs have lame gabarage vocals, that's why I love the vocals. I really like the new album even it's at a time a world apart of their earlier work.

The new Daughters is fucking wild! Very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very good stuff here. Damn, they've been out of the game for a while, Hell Songs came out in '06! I saw 'em live once with Cattle Decapitation, and the Locust (I actually met Justin Pearson before the show! Very nice guy). They were absolutely mindblowing. Thanks for bringing it up lou, I had no idea they dropped a new album, and I've been looking for something new with some balls to it.
|
Hell Songs is great, and I didn't like the one before it at all. I like how the guy was kinda sounding like David Yow on it.. worked great!
|
new stereolab is out and is awesome, as usual. I purposely didn't download the last song though. Heh.
|
I thought i should contribute at least one album in this thread so here; it was released earlier this year, i haven't seen them mentioned on this board, i can't stop playing it.

I think a bunch of us are gonna say Earl Sweatshirt's EARL.

well i think the record is great, that's why i posted it in this thread :p but then again i also thought they were good live when i saw them a few weeks ago, i don't get out much though and it doesn't take much to please me... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trash-Kit/dp...7643523&sr=8-1 |
I really like the new Xasthur a lot. It's a tragedy that it's his last.
|
more recent awesome albums:
laetitia sadier - the trip mount kimbie - crooks & lovers shortstuff - summer of shortstuff mark mcguire - living with yourself |
Yeah, Living With Yourself is good, I don't think it's my favorite McGuire record though. But it's a cool album to discover his stuff if you don't wanna listen to his early tapes (and there's a shitload of them). I love the last song on the album, with that part where it explodes and you just go all WTF, great way to finish the album... Also, I shook his hand the other day and he seems like the nicest guy ever... But now I regret that I didn't ask him about a new Skyramps album... :(
|
Yeah he's definitely the best member of Emeralds. He's released a ton of albums, but they've all been pretty good. I was surprised by this new one since I figured I'd be like "oh, just another McGuire album" but it actually had a lot of neat stuff going on in it. The fact that I've heard like 30 albums by this guy and he still continues to do some surprising, interesting things is a testament to his talent.

Just got MARIBOR - ATROCITY EXHIBITION. Kinda sounds like the Dead C collaborating with Lustmord. Lots of equalizer sweeps, trebly high pitched guitars cutting through glass.
Gotta give props, again, to that Daughters self-titled album, released like 2 days after they broke up... It's really fucking good. That blast beat at 1:22 in track 4? Brilliant! Really, when they started out, they were just a crappy screamo-grindo band, one of those bands that just wanted to be another Justin Pearson project. But then something happened: they got good. They wrote longer songs, stopped screaming and playing faster than they could play. They actually came up with creative riffs, instead of just playing fret 24 of the high string for an entire song. This is their most epic album, the songs are well-written, dynamic.. there are layers and layers of neat guitars and effects. Granted, it kinda just sounds like another Fatal Flying Guilloteens/Jesus Lizard (without the prominent bass playing of those bands), but the world needs more bands like that. Great album. Everyone get Daughters self-titled. I'd say check it out just to hear that wacky slide guitar in Our Queens. It sounds like Beefheart's Magic Band playing grindcore! Also, gotta mention that new Squarepusher again. Really fucking good, another complete left turn, but it's a consistently awesome album. Melodically pleasing, structurally brilliant, with wicked bass playing and perfect production. Some of the music sounds like it could've been in the game Kid Chameleon. Epic album. ![]() Finally, gotta give special mention to post-pop (aka Tokyo Virginity Pop) band アーバンギャルド (URBANGARDE) and their new album 少女の証明 .. no idea how to pronounce it but it rules. |
That Laetitia Sadier album is getting a lot of play.
I'm also awaiting Peter Kolovos's new record... I think his tone is AMAZING, but I'm still waiting for him to actually make some kind of song structures that warrant repeated listens. |

And daughters's first one is piece of garbage, semi-ironic grindcore going nowhere. Hell Songs is the shit, I mean it's like David Jow fronting a mathrock band which only can play hardcore breaks. And the last one, oh dear mother of Christ it's so good. It's loud, it's insane but mostly everything just falls together perfect. I mean even the offkey keyboard on that last song just feels right. Nearly perfect record in every sense. |
Right now I'm mad for Bee Mask's Canzoni dal Laboratorio del Silenzio Cosmico (Gift Tapes) and Deep Magic's Soul Vibration (DNT).
Oh, and Keith Fullerton Whitman's Generators (Root Strata). |
"Birds and Drums" by The Bewitched Hands on the Top of our Heads, released next week is a really cool album, a nice surprise!

absolutely, it sounds great, but not glossy. love the guitar layers (anyone else reminded of goo with some of the guitar tones, especially on the first song?), and the acoustic songs just sound amazing. honest, in-your-face, haunting... easily his best work in 20 years.
|
"In D" by Arandel is easily one of the best records I've heard this year. Impressive stuff. One anonymous french guy doing something between techno and neo classical music, with strict rules - no midi, no external sampling -, extensive use of organic instruments ; super interesting, and super beautiful. Incredible record, really.
|
Sounds great, checking it out.
I got TUNGS - SLEEPING a few weeks ago, it's pretty cool, underproduced psychadelic/shoegaze stuff with great melodies and fuzzy boombox production. The sound quality occasionally gets on my nerves (I don't mind so much that it's underproduced, I just think that some of the melodies and riffs deserve to shine brighter and clearer) but the songs are so good that it works. |

Yep. Once again, fox, MIND BLOWING FUCKING AWESOME ALBUM. |
Oh, I got the new WAR ON DRUGS ep, pretty cool stuff as usual.

Definitely one of the best albums of the year. |
MALE BONDING - NOTHING HURTS (cool songs but don't watch their videos, they're lame)
LOS ROBERTAS - CRY OUT LOUD DUM DUM GIRLS - I WILL BE and that FRANKIE ROSE AND THE OUTS albums are all quite good. I'm starting to get into short fast melodic indie rock again. For now. |
okay, listening to new gate now, "republic of sadness". incredible, as always. I like gate way more than dead c (and I'm a HUGE dead c fan).

The new thee oh sees makes me want to dance all day long..
Godddam it's awsome |
Yeah, the new oh sees is alright, I listened to it probably 10 times the first week I had it but got bored with it... they're a consistent band, though I wish they'd mix their sound up a bit more. This is like the 10th album I've heard by them, and it's not bad at all, but it's a bit safe...
I am really digging the new mike watt album, "hyphenated-man". Weird art punk with ultra-weird and -awesome Magic Band rhythms, it doesn't really sound like the Minutemen like might expect; in fact, it's better than most Minutemen stuff (and I'm a big Minutemen fan). Highly reccomended. Anyone digging the new Zs and Extra Life? I was a bit disappointed with em compared to the old works (that last zs ep, the one that has one 18 minute song, is one of my fav. ep's ever; this new album is a bit too noisey and samey for me), especially that new extra life which is just way too vocally dominated, in an obnoxious way. Still, some absolute great music. REISSUE OF THE YEAR = Horribly Wrong - Come On and Bleed Along With... uniquely violent snotty garage punk. |
new polysics ep and new polysics best-of (they have, like, 4 best of records!) with like 5 new songs, and a new residents album are also on my playlist.
so far my favorite records overall are definitely the new neil young, michael yonkers, mike watt, honey ride me a goat, and ikonika. |

New Slaves kind of irritated me at first but grew on me a bit, it's not that amazing but decent work. As like you I love their ep's way more. |
Nice.. I appreciate your intelligent, thoughtful responses!
Seriously, check out that mike watt album, it really shocked me how good it is. |

So I might get through mine insane listening and studying schedule but I will try to listen to it. |
yeah it doesn't sound anything like his other stuff
|

Yes! It was strange listening to that album at first, I didn't expect anything like it, but it just gets better and better the more I listen to it. Still, as far as this years Dead C-related releases are concerned, I think I prefer Patience. Listening to Weekend - Sports right now. Pretty good. Dark, noisy JAMC-style shoegaze. Nothing you haven't heard before, but I like this kind of music so it works fine for me. |
|
the minutemen are basically my favorite band, at least tied with the likes of SCG sonic youth and the fall.
i watt has released some decent solo stuff, not as boog as the MM but decent. he is also super nice. so i will definitrly giver this a listen. |

You should hear Double Nickels On The Dime as a complete record. It's really something as a whole. |
