=========

5h30m movie or 3-part miniseries, been watching oliver assayas's CARLOS.

great great stuff-- based on historical events (obviously some aspects are fictionalized). looks great & great soundtrack. the criterion blu-ray is a beautiful transfer. it's also streamable on netflix, but the disc is just wow.

I went to see Quentin Dupieux's Réalité and that was great!
This guy is brilliant, oddly funny, oddly scary, and his actors enjoy themselves... exquisite...

The story is about a 7 year old girl who wants to watch a videotape.

That is as correct as saying The Big Lebowski is about a guy who wants a new rug.

deerhunter sucks for you?

that needs a better explanation than a 2. that shit is a monument of its era. maybe you don't care about the era itself but as a movie it's gold.

ilduclo 02.25.2015 04:01 PM

I'd rate Deerhunter 5/10 at best

the band?

Rob Instigator 02.25.2015 04:11 PM

the movie 8/10
the band? 0/10

Wall of Voodoo is more fondly remembered than Deerhunter will be in 25 years.

very good! you liked last days of disco?

i must warn you that damsels is weird and at best "quaint" but there's something about greta gerwig's character in it ... i don't know... hard to explain.

stillman sez he made it for his college daughters i think

gmku 02.25.2015 04:42 PM

Yes, loved Last Days of Disco. Even better than I thought it would be.

I love it, and I'm surprised T&B rated it so low, but I appreciate it's a movie that divides audiences. But for acting alone, I think it's a masterpiece.

the actors are great of course-- de niro, cazale, walken, streep-- supremo cast

but for me it's the epic scope of it that does it. it's a "big" movie that maybe doesn't achieve 100% in the execution but the ambition of the projects is just great.

it begins with a prosperous and vigorous working class with immigrant origins (the american dream!) and it ends with broken fucked up people singing "god bless america" in the saddest of ways

great cinematography etc and other things but the way the stupid war destroys everything at home is just fucking brilliant.
