Yes, I have loved them since I was a young teenager and never get sick of them.
"Quiet Life" and "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" are the first LPs featuring David Sylvian's "revised/crooner" vocal style and the band's more "New Romantic" sound. "Tin Drum" sees them veering into somewhat artier territory.
I also still love their first two LPs, which the band themselves seem to disown. "Adolescent Sex" and "Obscura Alternatives" are two incredible and very hard LPs of heavy UK funk/disco (more funk than disco really) with very raw and attitude-laden vocals from a much-snottier sounding David Sylvian.
They looked fantastic in those early days. too. Somewhat emotionally dead and very gritty lyrical action, EXCELLENT synth sounds, and fabulous guitar work.
I love them in all their phases.

Thanx for info!!! I have to look if there is some material of Japan in library. I have also listened quite a lot "Quiet Life" and it has remain fascinating! My lp is cheap-fame pressing, it was already second hand-couple. I bought it, because one old friend once played me that album.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 01.05.2011 09:24 AM

It's pretty fuckin' fresh. Not quite as enjoyable as Trap House, for me, but I like it plenty.

noisereductions 01.05.2011 09:27 AM

yeah it's good. It was thrown together by the label though. Have you downloaded the mixtape Diplo put out called FREE GUCCI? That shit's amazing.

Agreed. Especially worth it for the Flying Lotus 'Photo Shoot' remix, which is fucking unreal.

As for me, I've spent the last couple of days listening through the Shostakovich string quartets again while playing the original Burt Bacharach version of Make It Easy On Yourself on semi-loop because of the thread in Sonic Gossip. Too amazing.

stu666 01.06.2011 07:14 AM

i finally got hold of a real copy of Blastic Scene and i'm listening now.

Here!
Well, I´m not very excited about their new material. Snakes and Arrows is ok, but I think albums quality is very far away from 2112, a Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres (in my opinion these are the best albums of Rush). I have Powerwindows and even Presto on c-cassette, but I haven´t listened them much. In my opinion Signals is last great album.

Mortte Jousimo 01.07.2011 03:02 AM

I forgot to mention one great album I just listened:
the Jimmy Castor Bunch: It´s just begun

Torn Curtain 01.07.2011 04:04 AM

Bobby Womack - Understanding (on deezer)

Well, I like their newer stuff, they are very heavy.

Their old stuff is ofcourse the best. :o
I can't agree on that signals is their last good album. Don't you like Grace Under Preassure and/or Hold your fire? They are my personal favourites.
