Hey Rob - did you attend this U of H event?

How was the "hype / buzz" around campus??

anytime the Counting Crows come up in life is cringeworthy ;)

Rob Instigator 07.21.2015 08:18 AM

I was not able to attend that Sanders event. It was moved to UH at the last minute because too many people RSVP'd.

It was a madhouse from what I hear.

really? that's awesome. i had no idea.

gmku 07.21.2015 09:42 AM

In my final three weeks at this place. Can't wait to feel that door swoosh closed behind me. Even now, the big bosses want to control things. I can't tell anyone until THEY do, they told me. Fine, whatever.

what they gonna do if you disobey? FIRE you? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

how many weeks are you ACTUALLY working though? i mean, you gonna call up your vacation days or what?

gmku 07.21.2015 10:38 AM

No, it's better if I don't use my vacation because I'll be paid for what I don't use. I'd rather have the cash than the time off. I am going to be coasting though!

One of the greater truths ever shared on this board!

My wife's Grandmother and Aunt/Uncle live in Waco and we enjoy going to visit.

Waco is a very clean city and you will get to enjoy more of the "seasons" than we do down here along I-10.

Rob Instigator 07.21.2015 11:29 AM

Still waiting to hear. Now it is up to a final "interview" with the owner/President of the company. My wife has been waiting for too long and sent off an email today informing them of this, that it has been over a month of interviews, and that it is unprofessional to keep her waiting without final word either way. Hopefully they respect that. If not, fuck em. I will take over University of Houston and make this city my bitch....

gmku 07.21.2015 11:51 AM

Best wishes with all of that, Rob. My wife and I are not the type to make New Year's resolutions, but coincidental to the start of 2015, we determined to find new jobs this year. For my wife, it meant launching a career; she's been in school for the past few years, and it meant generating a second income for us, so her landing a great job was huge for her and for us.

For me, the new job means leaving a place I simply no longer felt good at--like I didn't fit in, was feeling unenergetic, bored, etc.

Looking back, I can't believe that we made it happen. We became determined to do it, we stuck with it, through several prospects and rejections, and finally, it all came together.

Ha ha, yes! That's a fair analogy. Only better--I'm getting paid while I sit around waiting to start.

so... do you have any senior pranks prepared?

firecrackers in the photocopier? dead skunk in the break room? stab every car tire in the parking lot? scramble all the hard drives with military encryption?

give us a preview...

here's an easy one-- when the kid walks by slapping people's hands on monday morning, put some bacon fat in yours and follow through with a good high five.

high-five, kid!

enjoy breakfast!

just took a trip down nostalgia lane and listened to all of my favorite songs from about six years ago and hadn't listened to them since... it's like i knew the songs but didn't. like my brain was on autopilot. really surreal feeling.

gmku 07.23.2015 04:12 PM

The kid, as symbol man calls him (I call him the big boss in deep irony), sent me a passive-aggressive congratulatory note in response to the official announcement that I'm leaving. The first paragraph followed this outline: 1. congratulations; 2. sorry to see you go; 3. guilt trip about the lurch you're leaving us in.

The second paragraph discussed a new project he needs me to complete before I leave. HA!

Okay, that was weird enough. Within a day of my announcement comes an announcement that a coworker of mine is also leaving! Today she asked me if I got a weird congratulatory note from the big boss, like she did. "Let me guess," I said. "Congratulations. Sorry you're going. Guilt trip." "YES!" she said.

The big boss is a big jerk.

gmku 07.23.2015 05:04 PM

Genteel Death must spread a lot of rep around to be giving it to me so much (all negative, of course). Ha ha. Unless he has some kind of super-rep-powers. Ha ha. What a nut, and I'm using nut euphemistically.

!@#$%! 07.24.2015 11:31 AM

ha ha ha-- the kid is just a kid! sounds so inexperienced. probably his mom got him the job.

i had a semi day of rest yersterday, was able to watch a movie 2 nights ago, a soccer game yesterday, and waste a ton of time on the internet.

it's been a long time since i was last able to do that. well not thaaaaat long but some weeks i think. feels great. i was beginning to stress out-- too many changes happening right now. a welcome lull in a choppy sea of stress.

Rob Instigator 07.24.2015 12:16 PM

My wife finds out Monday whether she is being flown in for final in-person interview........

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 07.24.2015 07:16 PM

They totally suck. I refuse to spend more than $15 and get these.. decent bass, cool dynamics

Keeping It Gimple 07.25.2015 04:02 AM

rebecca try sennheiser

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 07.25.2015 04:11 AM

They bring it enough for the price. I don't like any headphones aside from good studio monitors but those aren't convenient for the Metro

gmku 07.25.2015 04:36 PM

Grado Labs. Only decent cans for decades now.

He and I are pretty good friends, actually. He just likes giving me crap. It's a bro kind of thing.

gmku 07.25.2015 04:40 PM

mrs gmku and I spent the entire afternoon gardening. We are reclaiming the yard and the garden space in our new digs, great space that previous tenants neglected for years. In the month we've been here, we've dug out weeds and overgrowth, planted new flowers, reseeded the bare spots in the lawn. It feels great. I am drenched in sweat at the moment and nursing a New Holland Brewing Imperial Hatter.

amazing but too expensive.

i would have said sony mdr7560 which are monitors (flat response, no added anything) and a kind of a ubiquitous industry staple, but for the same price i spotted some higher rated audio-technicas on b&h

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._s tudio.html

yes, it's $100 instead of $50 but pro headphones even the cheap ones (these are "cheap" in the pro market) are made to last a bit more than some shit skullcandy or bose or whatever. my sonys finally disintegrated after 10 years of several-times-a-week (if not daily) use; not sure about the ATs but all AT stuff i've ever had has been a good value (not top-of-the-line, but awesome value). so i might get these to replace the sonys down the road.

read the reviews. they're the highest rated headphone at that price point last i checked.

eta: wait wait wait-- 5-star rating for 12 bucks:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...ar_Stereo.html

these are neither monitor nor professional but for $12 look waaaaaay better than some shit you get at target

ah, that's nice. especially the beer.

we spent the day purging the house getting ready for the move. went through the dining paraphernalia and found crate upon crate of utterly useless shit. boxed it all-- some to leave behind here, some to sell/give away. we're just taking 2 plates, 2 bowls, 2 forks/knives/spoons/teaspoons. sorry, guests will have to eat with the cat-- ha!

will arrive to a similarly neglected yard but too late to do much about it (september, first frost comes in october). maybe i'll start some indoor herbs for cooking though-- good southern exposure.
