Didn't know there was a Dead C yahoo group, but I joined right away.
I will see Gate this tour, even if it means going to Belgium. |

Michael Morley replied in the Dead C yahoo group with possibly some good news for you: sorry no UK dates have been planned at present, i did have four dates offered but it was all a little too tight with times in June. Things have changed though and i am going to be in europe from 1 June through to the 28 August now. There may be a chance to organise some dates for later. thanks mm |
I don't suppose he posted what dates are set up already, did he?
|
No, but he apologised for the lack of info so far. Hope that helps. :)
According to last.fm Gate will play in Porto on june 18th: http://www.last.fm/event/1044707 Plus, this would be awesome if it's really happening: Sunday 7 June 2009 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., CAC Brétigny Concert The Tiger’s Mind (1967) Cornelius Cardew With Nina Canal, Nadia Lichtig, Michael Morley, Lee Ranaldo (to be confirmed), and Sara Stephenson Concert Volo Solo (1965) Cornelius Cardew With Rhys Chatham Concert Treatise (1963-1967) Cornelius Cardew With Michel Guillet, Jean-Jacques Palix, Marcus Schmickler and Samon Takahashi http://www.cacbretigny.com/inhalt/cardew_uk.html Le centre d'art contemporain de Bretigny is in Brétigny-sur-Orge, which is about 35km south of Paris. http://www.cacbretigny.com/ Cornelius Cardew and the Freedom of Listening <version francaise> A program of events 5 April to 27 June 2009 CAC Brétigny, France The Centre d’Art Contemporain de Brétigny is pleased to announce an exhibition and program of events that retrace the artistic career of the English composer Cornelius Cardew, who died tragically in 1981 at the age of 45. The CAC Brétigny and the curators will present an exhibition of archives, which breaks with a traditional museum approach, and a series of concerts and performances that testify to the vibrancy of Cardew’s work and his influence on contemporary artistic and musical practice. The program is curated by Dean Inkster and Jean-Jacques Palix, with the assistance of Lore Gablier, who have previously organized a number of related events at L’Ecole Régionale des Beaux-Arts in Valence, notably an interpretation of Cardew’s Paragraph 7 of The Great Learning and Michael Parsons’s Walk. Various internationally renowned artists and musicians from different generations – Frank Apertet, Nina Canal, Rhys Chatham, Luke Fowler, Michel Guillet, Nadia Lichtig, Michael Morley, Lee Ranaldo, Keith Rowe, Marcus Schmickler, Sara Stephenson, Samon Takahashi, Terre Thaemlitz, John Tilbury, Peter Todd, and Annie Vigier – will be present during the exhibition to interpret Cardew’s scores and respond to his work in a variety of forms including concerts, performances, and film projections. Pierre Bal-Blanc, Director CAC Brétigny |

Programme for the Cardew events: http://www.cacbretigny.com/press/Cardew/GuideCardew.pdf I am seriously tempted by this, but only if Lee is definitely taking part. I reckon I can get a ferry out from Portsmouth to Le Havre or Newhaven to Dieppe to arrive early on the Sunday morning, drive to Brétigny, see the show, drive back to Le Havre or Dieppe, catch a late ferry back on the Sunday evening, and be home in time for elevensies on the Monday morning. If Lee's not taking part, though, I'd sooner save myself for a proper Gate show. Blunderbuss dreams: Lee's in France now... There are SY shows in Europe late May, then no SY activity until late June... so Lee might be in Europe at the same time as Michael Morley is playing his shows... could they be doing more shows together than just this Cornelius Cardew thing? (This is pure speculation/dreaming, I hasten to add) |
Gate is one of my all time favorite bands. I wish I lived elsewhere.
