i've been to your town once... and it doesn't surprise me at all that the locals are drinking a lot there. but there are also many similarly isolated mining towns in australia, so i wonder why the average would be higher in kalgoorlie.

anyway, i remember feeling glad to be in a "real" town after being on the nullarbor plain for days... the town itself didn't leave much of an impression on me, but i remember the main street and there being many brothels, the huge mining superpit and the ultra large trucks.

how long ago where u here?

i'm not australian, but i spent about 10 months and something down under a few years ago. i had one of those working holiday visas and got pretty much all around, visting every state and territory along the way.

i've probably only been in kalgoorlie (and coolgardie) for a day or two, but i can't remember exactly. it was a stop on our way from melbourne to perth.

edit: that was august 2000.
