So i'm going away and I'm spending a large amount of money on cds to listen to...

Reccomend me some late 80's-early 90's indie/alternate rock.
On my to get list is
Painful - Yo La Tengo
Today's active lifestyles - Polvo
Tweez - Slint
SAF - Big Black
Goat - Jesus Lizard

You get what I mean...

ZEROpumpkins 06.28.2007 07:03 AM

Reckon they'll have it in a cd shop? The most obscure they get are the most well known of GBV albums.
Sounds like a good album though.

Yep, gotta agree with this, totally amazing! Also add anything else by Jesus Lizard you don't own, especially Bang which is the collection of B'sides and rare tracks, very very good!

ZEROpumpkins 06.28.2007 07:21 AM

The best cd shop in sydney doesn't have Jesus Lizard, and not even the largest Australian online cd shop has Scratch Acid...

The Usher 06.28.2007 07:25 AM

Hmmm, then just stay at home and buy then online, it'll be worth the wait!

dressedindreams 06.28.2007 07:31 AM

try Stereolab - Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements
and if your getting painful, get electr-o-pura aswell, its in the same vain just a little better i think

dressedindreams 06.28.2007 07:32 AM

also, any early fugazi or jawbox.

This store is on the outter suburbs of Sydney and they have the Jesus Lizard albums in. They have Liar in I think.... Also Red Eye, Paint It Black and Utopia might have them too. But Utopia is lame. My choice for record stores in Sydney is Repressed Records(out of the way for most, in Penrith), Paint It Black (Newtown) and Title (Surry Hills, for more experimental stuff).

dressedindreams 06.28.2007 07:40 AM

the jbhifi website has the scratch acid album and all of the jesus lizard albums.
i bought them from there a few weeks ago
*and liar should belong in every record collection, better then goat

Don't buy from JB Hi-Fi! The reason their prices are so low is because they are owned by the Macquarie Bank, who run JB Hi Fi at a loss as a tax ride-off. So By buying from JB you are helping the filthy rich avoid paying taxes.

atsonicpark 06.28.2007 09:31 AM

cool, so the albums you bought are some of my all time favorites. i actually LOVE tweez. it's no spiderland but... "PAST WHERE THEY PAINT THE HOUSES!!!!!!!!!!"

based on what you bought, i'd reccomend:

get swirlies - blonder tongue audio baton (or just download it off their site).
sweep the leg johnny - goin down swingin
rodan - rusty
that one june of 44 album i forgot the name of...
q and not u - no kill no beep beep
drive like jehu - yank crime

none of those should be too hard to find, i'd hope (well, swirlies will be, but again , you can download on their site).

Thanks for those stores, but I want a place where it's close for me. I dont want to set foot in Newtown, so i'm thinking more along the lines of the city. Yes, Utopia is lame but occaisionally they have some hard to find albums.

I don't care. I hate the shit out of Macquarie Bank, but if I don't buy from JB HIFI then I have no place to get cds that aren't from the internet.
