Why do People Oppose Sex Ed?
 

I mean really, we all know kids are having sex. So why not teach them how to protect themselves.

Because some parents want to tell their children about sex in a closed, comfortable setting instead of a thought-mill environment like public school.

Or because sex is the DEVIL.

But I think a professional would do a better job than parents.

Well too bad you're not everyone.

Yes, if I were the majority, they would also know about queer sex as well.

I could imagine public school sex ed being more tramatizing for closet homosexuals (there should be a less technical word but less potentially-offensive word than "gay"). Hearing about hetero sex may increase feelings of isolation, particularly in mid western small towns.

I could only hope that parents would be liberal enough to home-teach these kids about hetero sex (for reference) as well as gay sex, diseases, and acceptance.

EDIT: then again, opting them out could increase feelings of isolation I suppose

I can understand the parents concern of protecting their child. However, they are doing more harm than good. Kids do not know how to protect themselves, and sometimes it is too late when the person knows how to protect themselves.

I think because there are a lot of conservative baby boomer parents.

Bleh. If my parents tried to teach me safe gay sex while I was still in the closet I think I would have killed myself right there.

Children need to be fully trained in the use of automatic weapons and explosives before they get to learn the subtleties and pleasures of the erotic life and our society just doesn't respect that.

If you had children, I'd imagine maybe it would make sense.

They grow up so fast. One minute they're playing with Lego and watching The Moomins, then the next they're fucking like bunnies in a most senseless fashion. Not the best thing you want for your kids, especially when you're approaching a minor mid life crisis and your marriage is on the rocks.

I didn't actually start doing it till I was 16. Wish I'd known sooner. Oh well.. making up for past time, I guess!

Indeed. They should hand out abstinence rifles instead of rings, which would have the additional benefit of releasing /channeling the sexual tension, and make for a much bolder statement as well.

i find the same sort of people who oppose sex education dont agree with giving out free condoms but complain about teeneage pregnancy.

because middle america likes to ignore the basic facts of biology and psychology, and treat its young adults as overgrown children with no minds of their own and no responsibilities whatsoever. unless they are poor and black and they commit a crime, then they are tried and sent to jail as adults.

sex education is suposed to be about procreation and the way it happens, which is why it is taught in health class. it is not supposed to be a primer for details on how to have sex, gay or otherwise.

people are opposed to it ecause many people , in USA, are of the idea that sex for pleasure is a sin, and that sex is only to be done by people trying to conceive a child.
