Is or Are?
When talking about bands, do you say is or are?
Sonic Youth is an awsome band... or Fallout Boy are an awful band... I think both are correct. It's very debatable. But what do you use? ...damn, I messed up the poll and I can't add one anymore. |
I don't see what difference it makes though. Honestly.
|
i say is. but, like you said it is debatable.
you gonna be on xbox live later? |
Is. The subject is singular. One band.
|

Sonic Youth as a single entity (is) or as a group of people (are). I think it can go either way. |

Sonic Youth = A BAND
A BAND. NOT NUMEROUS PEOPLE. |
Hayden is right, grammatically speaking. but, in the whole scheme of things, does it really fuckin' matter?
|

YES. IT DOES. |
I still say it can go either way.
Do you refer to a football team that way? "The Raiders is crap"? A TEAM. NOT NUMEROUS PEOPLE. |
"Raiders" is not a collective noun. "Youth" is. "Team" is, too.
|
So....Raiders are a collective pro-noun?
|
no, "Raiders" is a plural noun, like "members" or "guitars".
|
Right on.
|
Mmmhmm. Once again, who cares?
|
The White Stripes are
Sonic Youth is The Flaming Lips are Pavement is |
