Songs that just don't work without the video
Yeterday, browsing though youtube and watching this song by Tegan and Sara "Speak Slow", I caught myself thinking that I really like this tune, but only when watching it in a video. It's silly but great to some extent - it emphasizes the wickedness of the song and blablabla blablabla.
Here's the one I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgAX0KHmU6A Any thoughts on this? Do you think there are songs that are just not complete without their videos? |

It's a nice enough song without the video, but with the video its just wonderful. |
Autechre's Gantz Graf is enhanced by the video. The same goes for a lot of other electronic music.

this song would never have worked without the brilliant choreography in the video

that unkle song... eye for an eye, i know thats not the name of it but the video is incredible, without the visual stimuli, the song is pretty lame.

fat boy slims praise you. awesome vid!
|
none, 99.9% of music videos suck ass.
|
Also, when I saw "Tonto" video by Battles, I felt it gave a completely different feeling to the song. Not better, but different by any means.

For some reason I love this video but I can't explain it. It doesn't really enhance the video but it reminds me why Guided By Voices are so awesome. |

then THIS has got to be the other 0.1%!!! |
and this song is pretty much worthless but the video rules

definitely. by the way, i'm pretty much the only one who thinks the video for praise you is incredibly (badly) retarded, right? that's one of spike's worse videos. i like the song, not norman's highest point but a nice catchy tune. |
i also hate music videos, but i can actually think of two answers to this question:
green jelly - 3 little pigs wax - california |
Both are good songs but the video really add "something":
Laura Veirs - Galaxies Laura Veirs - Pink light |
|
This Dario Argento-inspired video by Death In Vegas ft Iggy Pop is awesome, and it certainly makes the song work better than on its own. I still like it, though.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOsonaQMy-E Iggy makes a great impersonation of a serial killer on it. |
Videos spoil the music.
But when the music sucks , that's alright. |
Another one from Death In Vegas. The song is good on its own, but the video certainly makes it sound better. Appropriately titled 'Dirge', I think it features Hope Sandoval on vocal duties. Or was it Beth Orton? Can't remember.

I think that's Dot Allison.
|
Yep, that's her. I always confuse her with Beth Orton, for some reason. I think I've thought that it was also Hope Sandoval because she was guesting on a Chemical Brothers album around the same time, wasn't she? Oh dear, all these chanteuses give me a headache.
