What are your guilty pleasures?

Let's see

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the Movie
Crash Test Dummies - God Shuffled his feet
Old 70's Sesame Street episodes
Voltron

And lots of old random radio songs of my preteen years, Live, Oasis, Spacehog, Nine inch Nails, Counting Blue Cars, that Green Day song from the movie Angus, lots lots more

the ikara cult 11.15.2007 07:43 PM

I love Teenage Mutant Hero turtles (I assume you mean the original film) and Sesame St. I dont think these pleasures have any connotations of guilt whatsoever.

EyeballGrowth 11.15.2007 07:51 PM

Well Sesame Street maybe not, but there are always those people like Why the hell are you watching Sesame Street? They don't know the 70's episodes were beyond weird

TMNT yes I'm talking about the 1st movie, I have a bit of guilt in that I must admit. But it's actually a real movie. But it's largely nostalgia

avantgarde1 11.15.2007 07:56 PM

christmas music (not that i feel guilty, but for some reason i think i should).

Why the hell would you feel guilty of these? I love them both and am proud of the fact. Am I lame or something?

jennthebenn 11.15.2007 08:28 PM

Speed 2

seriously, a movie that pan-horrible should not have rewatchability. but it
does.

Lamont Cranston 11.15.2007 09:48 PM

Iron Maiden :o

girlgun 11.15.2007 09:49 PM

i'm gonna have to go with cigarettes. and beer. and whisky.

pbradley 11.15.2007 10:51 PM

Murdering hobos.

But guilty only in the eyes of the law.

Everyneurotic 11.15.2007 11:01 PM

none of my pleasures are guilty, at least not for me.

Dead-Air 11.15.2007 11:08 PM

Yeah, you should feel no guilt for loving '70s Sesame Street (though you should for making the all too common mistake of putting the ' in the wrong place!) If you'd said '90s Sesame Street that would be a justfiable guilty pleasure.

I don't have broadcast t.v. and I haven't in decades, but put me in front of one with a remote, and I'll find whatever the current version of the Dating Game/Love Connection may be and thoroughly enjoy watching the train wrecks. That's guilt.

I like listening to Art Bell a lot, though he's recently retired. I still listen to his replacements even though they aren't nearly as good in hopes of capturing the same UFO/Conspiracy theory geekdom rush. My wife is embarrased by this.

I've kind of come full circle with The Carpenters too, because I got into them when Sonic Youth were dropping their name all of the time due to the hipness of the irony. Thing is, I fell in love with the music and now could give a damn about the irony, and go for songs like "I Won't Last a Day Without You" that have no hipness quotient I know of.

what makes you think sy were being ironic liking the carpenters?

gualbert 11.15.2007 11:19 PM

Kylie Minogue. "Locomotion" and "I should be so lucky "

atsonicpark 11.15.2007 11:24 PM

Who the fuck has "guilty" pleasures? If you like something, why would you feel "guilty" for it? Why would you be embarassed by your tastes? That's stupid. We've had about 65 threads like this, and it always starts out with a few serious answers, a few answers of "Why you feel guilty for dat?" and then my inevitable reply, which I'm replying with again. Why not say: "What are some things you like that perhaps other people on here may not like as much?"

That being said, I probably like a lot of shit not everyone here likes, but I'll freely admit it: KoRn's first two albums, Limp Bizkit's first album, Static-X's first album, System of a Down's first and third albums are all masterpieces. I really like a lot of Madonna's music, too! Actually, lots of pop stuff.. I really really fucking like a few of Tool's albums and almost all of Deftones's work. As far as films go, I watch everything -- literally everything -- and I'm not ashamed at all to watch fucking Murder-Set-Pieces one day, The Lion King the next, and then end with Uzumaki. I tend to side with the darker, low budget stuff, but I can appreciate big budget films (except overblown total bullshit films like the Matrix, which in direct contradiction of my paragraph above, I find nothing to like about -- I may not like Lord of the Rings, but those at least seem to have a little bit of heart to them unlike Keanu Reeves's overblown special effects bullshit).

Sorry, I know that's a real "indie" answer, but I'm not ashamed nor feel guilty for anything I like. In fact, I get the reputation on here as someone who hates everything, but I honestly feel that I can tolerate ALMOST any book/film/song/etc, because I've found in life that you HAVE TO find at least one good in everything. You have to! Otherwise, you're going to be some dick that goes, "I never wanna hear the Fall, they is assholes lol." Seriously, people need to be a little more open minded in general. And if you feel guilty for liking something, fuck you.

atsonicpark 11.15.2007 11:25 PM

ps: Yo Gabba Gabba is the best show currently on television, for those wondering.

Oh, I don't think they entirely were. Sonic Youth were into the Beatles and the Carpenters were definitely directly descended, particularly in terms of song arrangement and production. Still, I think the SY cover of "Superstar" reeks of irony, and the lyrics to "Tunic" even moreso. I don't think there is anything wrong with that though - you can still get into something in part out of irony and really enjoy it.
