finding nobody 05.15.2006 03:23 PM

origins of your username

i came up with this name while reading "portrait of a killer: jack the ripper"
and the book was talking about how he was a master of disguise. and one of the names he went by as an alias was mr. nemo. he went by this because nemo translates to nobody in latin.
so i was thinking about the movie "finding nemo" and how ironic it was that nemo means nobody. thus the name finding nobody was born

screamingskull 05.15.2006 03:28 PM

do you think the makers of finding nemo called it that for a reason?, or do you think they just liked the name nemo?

im screamingskull because when i first joined in april 2005 it was my favourite sonic youth song. i played it over and over and over again, i liked that the lemonheads are mentioned in it because they were one of my favourite bands too. i didn't really think through my name properly as it didn't seem that important. and i didn't want to change it on the old board because i would have to start all over again at 0 posts.
and i though if i changed it when the new board arrived it would be confusing for people who i talked to regulary.

there is a screaming skull registered on this board too. lucky for me he/she hardly ever posts.

I like ambiguous words without specific definitions that sound nice; phonic similarities to other words offer a evocation not present to pre-defined words.

Strangely enough, I was going to post this thread today, but thought better of it.

golden child 05.15.2006 03:32 PM

i was thurstonmoore for a time on the old board, and then like a year and a half ago when i was a stuck up, cocky 14 year old kid. atari was bitching and was like "who do you think you are, a golden child?"

so i changed my name to golden child

In that case, I would've chosen "Nil."

i wouldn't really be suprised if the makers named the movie that for the actual meaning. disney is fucked up. 'finding nobody' kind of funny and sad at the same time

nomadicfollower 05.15.2006 03:46 PM

After reading Into the Wild, I wanted to be a nomad, but I wouldn't know how, so I would become a follower.

FruitLoop 05.15.2006 03:53 PM

Mine comes from my earlier days as a candy raver, making collars out of fruit loops and threads before going to raves. I miss being a kid sometimes....

Mine's a neo-masonic term derived from Prusso-Latvian rhyming slang, and refelects my interest in pineapples and medieval milk churns.
