road trip or plane ride

ok so in mid june i'm going to nyc to find a place to live and get interviewed by potential roommates and stuff and i'm torn on taking a plane up there or just driving up. if i drive up it'll be right after the mudhoney show on the 12th in gainesville. i will have my friend coming with me so we're splitting gas 50/50, but with gas prices climbing an all time high by summer, it'll probably cost the same to fly even with someone else splitting gas.

so should i do the road trip or fly up? what would you rather do, out of the two, if you were in this situation?

ROAD TRIP!

I road tripped from Denver to Rapid City and back, and it was most excellent. :)

Cantankerous 03.14.2008 11:08 AM

road trip. i say this because i hate airplanes and airports.

i'd say consider a plane because babysitting a car in new york can be a bitch-- finding parking, paying for parking, moving it on street sweep day, etc. on the other hand, i love driving in new york-- that crazy traffic was made for me!

with the cost of gas, a plane might end up being cheaper, faster and a lot less of a hassle.

road trips lose a lot of the romanticism after the first day of driving imo.

i would enter a express bus and go there, they usually dont ask for tickets so it would be ultra cheap like 0 cent.
but i doubt this works in your country.

so, use your bike.

yeah it doesn't work. a greyhound is only about 160 bucks for a round trip.

haha i wish i could ride my bike up there. that would be a dream come true.

i like trains. I'd fly there, btw.

This is the best advice. Figure out where you're staying in NYC. Find out if there's parking. If you're in the actual city, a car is a pain in the ass. Take the subway.

The plane will probably end up cheaper in a trip from Gainesville.

i know where i will be staying and i don't really have the urge to drive in nyc. i was just thinking of leaving it front of my friends places until it's time for me to go back home. i just wanted to go on a road trip since i haven't been on one in awhile.

i'm still torn but i'm leaning towards flying.

you could take your bike as luggage in the bus

of course long bus trips SUCK. (60 people + 1 toilet) x 24 hours = pain

ps-

make sure that's actually possible before you head out there.

yeah when i move up there i think i'm going to take a bus since i can bring my bike on the bus.

yeah maybe parking in front of some of my friends places for a week won't be such a good idea after all.

it is fun, for me especially. probably because i'm notorious for speeding and shitty driving in general.

did you get a private area to smoke your ganja? that's the only way anyone can listen to a set of the grateful dead.

actually, the flight was short enough that I didn't need to, the airport was so dead the morning of the flight that I had my brother make a couple more rounds while we burned a spliff of cali collie that made things niceness. I have in my collection some 100 grateful dead sets, but then again, I smoke a lot of herbs as well.
