I don't think I could call them rock gods - as much as I love Sonic Youth.
For some reason I don't put them into that pantheon. Perhaps because I've only seen them in little venues and have always found them totally approachable and down to Earth - not bigger than life.

I swear I haden't heard Elliot Smith praised until he died, until then he was just another musican in a long list of musicans playing tortured love songs. Just you wait and see when the singer of Counting Crows dies everyone will say he was amazing.
