Schweeeeeeeeeeeet.
|
well done.
|
my new job is going to put me up in an apartment. that way i can still keep my place in fort worth for the weekends.
|
Many congrats, o'connor. That sounds like a great result for you.
|
f'sho. thank you all. as horrid as it's gonna sound, i've never been to austin. and i've lived in texas for a good number of years. what's fun down yonder?
|
it used to be a lot cooler than it is. gangstas now lurk outside of Emo's.
I was going to ask if you had a place too. with everyone in school, most of the affordable stuff will be already occupied. I think ACL is going on this weekend. there should be a lot of cool shows (even if you don't have tickets for "the main event"). |
If you like
Parks lakes nature trails roots rock Tex-Mex food drinking bars bars bars bars then you will enjoy austin if you hate rampant B.O. hippies burnouts gutterpunk runaways w/ $200 a day trust funds massive Yuppie influx segregation lack of restaurant variety. HEAT you may not enjoy austin I myself HATED and HATE IT, but that's just me. Asstown is not coducive to the Instigator. Good luck though. I do not drink and while I enjoy nature, I am not an avid seeker of nature experience (camping, kayaking, swimming in fetid lakes, etc), and these are the two MAIN things to do in Austin. |
damn, i fucking HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAte hippies and smelly people... but i love the sauce. i guess it'll be 50/50. either way it's cool. i plan on spending most of my time hold up in my apartment so as to save some scratch.
|
^^^ on the bright side, each bike-riding hippie that you run over is worth an extra 10 points.

I live in Austin and I dig it for the most part. A lot of locally owned businesses: a lot of locally owned record stores! If you're from Ft. Worth, I think you'll feel right at home in Austin. The traffic sucks and the lack of adequate public transportation is not anything you aren't used to. I would recommend getting a bike and moving in toward the city. If you don't smoke pot, prepare to feel left out in almost every social situation.
In my opinion, if you're going to live in Texas, live in Austin. Sure it's hot, but the surrounding landscape is surprisingly beautiful. The green belt and Barton Springs are great in the summer. I definitely wouldn't be reclusive while living here. And if you like wading through a see of hipsters, Jackalope on 6th has two dollar pints of anything and everything they have on tap (Bellhaven, Guiness, Franzikaner, New Castle, Real Ales). It's the only night where it's actually cheaper to drink at a bar. The music scene is way overrated. |
i indeed do puff on teh green so that's not a problem. i wont' have to worry about transportation (i've got my own car, and they send a guy to drive me to work). i dont' drink beer though so i may have to spend some $$$ on liquor. other than that it sounds alright. plus i've got a few friends down there already so i won't be completely alone.

<------ Former Austinite
Let's see, the green belt was my favorite part about Austin. If you wander off the trails and climb up the rock walls you can find a small colony of hobos to hang with. Some very fine folks live back there full time... Possibly my brother is one of them at the moment. The Cathedral of Junk in south Austin is amazing and is owned by wonderful people. Go have a beer with them when they're open. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/7816 This is a pretty important part of living in Austin: http://www.showlistaustin.com/ If you're interested at all in improvised experimental whatnots, the Salvage Vanguard Theater is important: http://www.salvagevanguard.org/index.php For food... Ruby's BBQ near the UT campus is good. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/201/4...e6bc9b.jpg?v=0 You can get some wicked bad ass Chinese food at Ding ho(sp?) in north Austin. I tended to stay away from sixth st., but if you must go Jackalope and that one place across the streetish from emo's with all the heavy metal dudes that I can't remember the name of are the places to be. I'll think of more stuff later. |
dude i gots to check out that junk cathedral! wonder if he'll let me burn one in it?
