your favorite cocktail

i don't drink beer enough to have much of an opinion about it, but i do drink a heeeeellllllll of a loot of liquor, and what are some of your favorite concoctions?

my all time gave and standby, i'm always up for vodka & cranberry, practically was on a IV of it during ATP NY, especially during the first day, sometimes with a splash of lime to give an element of sour, and goes great with Thai food

one drink i made tonight that really set the standard high is called a Hollywood

which i made with 2 parts Chambord, 2 parts Vodka (Skyy in this instance) 1 part Triple Sec and a splash of lime juice

drunk a bit of Cherry Slings over the holidays, 6 parts Cherry Brandy, and 1 part lemon juice

after dinner dessert drinks tend to be quite creamy, Nuts & Berries (2 parts half & half, 1 part Chambord, 1 part Amaretto) Velvet Hammer, (2 parts half & half, 1 part vodka, 1 part creme de cacoa) or a classic Brandy Alexander

i had a passion fruit mojito that was to die for.

at home i just usually have crown on the rocks, or bacardi with either pineapple or cran juice

This sounds amazing.

pantophobia 01.07.2009 09:28 PM

it tastes a lot like a cherry coke, which is quite consolation sincei don't drink soda anymore

generally i'm an on the rocks kind of guy, but nothing beats a good bloody mary on a sunday morning. nothing.

then in summer there's the wonderful gin & tonic, or the goodness of a salty dog, but not this time of the year, no.

anyway if anyone is interested i'll post my recipe for a bloody mary that has no shitty or artificial or foofoo ingredients of any kind and it's just fucking good.

Summertime is the time for: Bourbon & Tonic, Vodka & Cranberry, Tequila Sunrise, Rum & Coke and of course the kings of summer drinks The Caipirinha (Cachaca or Vodka with lime, sugar and ice)

Winter: Jack & Coke, and basically any scotch or bourbon on the rocks.

ihateyouth 01.07.2009 11:29 PM

vodka on the rocks.

acousticrock87 01.08.2009 12:42 AM

Jameson and a touch of water. No ice.

thats not a cocktail yo. the original definition (19th century) was liquor, sweet, and bitters. but today is any kind of mixed drink-- water doesnt count-- you need at least a juice :)

acousticrock87 01.08.2009 12:52 AM

Haha I know. It was my way of saying "none."

Not that I don't like cocktails; I just can't think of a time I set one down thinking, "I'm glad I didn't spend my money on whiskey."

But I will admit to loving White Russians. I can't help it. Oh, and pineapple juice, orange juice, and any kind of alcohol. That's always good.

Sonic Youth 37 01.08.2009 12:57 AM

^ vermouth, gin, orange juice and lemon juice is a godly combination.

oh ha ha ha-- i could chug gallons of kahlua and milk-- enough to make me vomit.

on the subject of creamy shit, and in winter, bailey's on the rocks is awesome-- i'd count whiskey cream as a cocktail of sorts (well maybe its cheating). fuck i can drink bailey's like soda & make my liver rot. oh yeah and irish coffee rules.

hot buttered rum btw is an ancient american drink thats fucking great in a cold day.

acousticrock87 01.08.2009 01:02 AM

I have never had Bailey's. And now whenever I see it it just reminds me of the Old Greg thing, which, if videos had a taste, would taste kind of like sewer water.

!@#$%! 01.08.2009 01:12 AM

ive no idea what you talking bout but if you like white russians bailey's is just a switch of liquor (irish whiskey instead of vodka) and vehicle for the coffee (no kahlua). both are made w/ cream. and since you like jameson's you should abandon your prejudices and give it a goddamn try.

acousticrock87 01.08.2009 01:14 AM

I'm sure I'd like it. I've never turned it down, but I've never sought it out either. Some day.

EDIT: Oh, and Old Greg is a Mighty Boosh skit. It's kind of annoying, though, so I'm not going to link it.
