holy shit, why do modest mouse suck now?
 

I'm listening to Building Nothing Out of Something for the first time in a long time and this is so much better than We Were Dead. Hell I love Good News and would probably call it my favorite album by them. Does anyone else feel that We Were Dead just plain sucked? =(

They've always stinked...

the album does indeed suck. i don't have much hope for the next one. they definitely have a newer pop sound. they used to sound so great. i think it just happens when the singer/songwriter stops using drugs and starts eating cheeseburgers. i still like isaac brock and jeremiah green is probably one of my all time favorite drummers. eric judy rocks too

i'd probably say Long Drive.. is my favorite album by them. Atomizes/Ionizes is pure gold

I like the single We All Float On, or whatever that one is called. As for buying albums, I gave up on them in 2000. I knew major labeldom would suck their life out. But they could be re-born...

Yeah Jeremiah Green's drumming is probably the best on Long Drive actually. I love him. Of course this is coming from a non-musician so I don't know what I'm talking about BUT he SEEMS like a genius to me? haha.

I think I will actually give We Were Dead another try. Maybe it isn't bad. I loved Dashboard, nothing else really stuck out to me, and I haven't listened to it since release. So, who knows.

There are maybe MILLIONS of bands out there plently better than Modest Mouse.

I mean... I DO like some tracks off the first few albums and some of the songs on Good News are excellent... but overall this band are just uncreative.

Oh and is there a point to Johnny Marr being in the band? Honestly, what does he do?

Long Drive and Lonesome Crowded West are their best. I haven't really listened to We Were Dead. There were some good tunes on Good News, but it's not exactly my favorite.

I see them much the same as Death Cab For Cutie. When they truly were indie, they were great. When they signed to a major label and became an "Indie" band, they began to get much worse.

The rest is a continuous yawnfest

I enjoy their first two or three albums, but the ran out of tricks and now sound like goddam one trick ponies.

I wasn't too familiar with him on here, but gmku seems to be a decent poster on the RYM forums. There's much worse users on there imo.
