Is it better than Hypermagic Mountain? I thought that one was pretty meh-worthy.

Needle in the 'E', y'all...

I'll give it another listen sometime soon, but this really unimpressed me. It's like Lightning Bolt on auto-pilot with zero memorable moments. At least Hypermagic Mountain had some awesome shit like 2morrow Morrow Land and Captain Caveman. This one just feels...void.
|
I haven't given it a "proper" listen yet (as in, one without distraction), so I'll reserve my comments. But I will say.. there's only so far they can really take their sound. Still, it's quite an awesome sound.

I saw earlier today that it had leaked, but I held back from downloading it. I'll be seeing them this Sunday in Brooklyn and Monday in Philadelphia. They never sell their albums at shows really (I saw it happen two out of about thirty times), but maybe they'll have it there? I'll wait and see. I do know that there are supposed to be Matt Brinkman designed t-shirts this tour...

I'm looking forward to this.

Great record.
Maybe their best. Certainly their most "focused" and well-crafted. |

Good. I'm looking forward to it even more, now. |
It has a bit of filler in the middle, but the actual "songs" are definitely their most complex and interesting. It seems .. prog-influenced .. moreso than any of their other stuff. Though I miss the simplicity of their earlier records (you know, like the "2 Towers" riff that plays for a good 5 minutes), this isn't like a RUINS record or anything. It's still very much Lightning Bolt, and it has some of the best riffs and drumming of their career. Really love the first 3 songs and the final 3...

It's killer!
