has anyone ever changed their name?

I want a new name. It has been this way since I was about 15 but I've not changed it yet because I've never been able to decide.

Has anyone ever changed their name? Not through getting married or the likes but just out of pure choice and randomly(or not randomly) chosen a whole new label for themselves?

How did you go about finding something that 'fits'?

Any suggestions are welcome, even if you haven't done this for yourself.

I know someone who's going through this at the moment. For a stage name. I also know a post-op transexual. I know quite a few people with assumed names, and a few who take middle names. I think for most of them it happens quite 'organically', insofar as it just seems natural to take on a different name, if you're more comfortable with it.

I wouldn't say it's that different to a pseudonym, phoenix.

Loulou, or Louise for you :)
phoenix... you want to get born again!?!

I've felt slightly odd with my surname and even middle name since I can remember. My first name I'm quite comfortable with. So.. It's just almost frustrating that they feel so wrong yet I'm unsure what would be right to replace them with.

oh and, a pseudonym on a messageboard, at least you can change it every few years for free without it being a big deal, needing to replace credit cards, update records etc..

My friend and I have a rule that we should never trust a person with a rebirth name.

gualbert 10.23.2009 06:57 AM

Isn't your avatar Louise Brooks?

You can be called any name you want (unless you're talking to a cop or someone from the administration)

nicfit 10.23.2009 07:10 AM

Max Power syndrome?

I've just never really felt my second and last names really suited me or felt right. Generally speaking.. I avoid them. I avoid saying them. I avoid introducing myself by my full name. When I sign my name, my last name is unrecognisable on purpose. When I sign my work, the same thing. I dislike/put off writing artist statements because it ends up needing to involve my name or introducing myself, and I hate it that much.

I just want something that doesn't bother me so much and feels like me/.

change it to phoenix, i don't know what your first name is but being called Miss Phoenix would be pretty cool

phoenix 10.23.2009 07:29 AM

it might sound a bit douchey irl.

that said, I don't want something generic. I'd like it to be a bit oddball.

notyourfiend 10.23.2009 07:45 AM

what's yr real name? maybe we can help you come up with some interesting nicknames.

phoenix 10.23.2009 07:55 AM

I don't really want nicknames.. I have enough of those. My first name is fine anyway.. just the surname is suckage. From a distance I don't mind it. Just don't like it on me. Its an item of clothing that does not fit my shape.

notyourfiend 10.23.2009 07:57 AM

I understand - I really don't like my first name (Rachel) but all the nicknames that could possibly use instead (Rae, Rach, Shelly) are even worse....

phoenix 10.23.2009 08:04 AM

no way rae is cute! I always liked that name, it was one I thought I might want. Rei ayonami i awesome too..

notyourfiend 10.23.2009 08:09 AM

Rae sounds too much like a country darling to me. I have considered going by Ray but I don't think that it would really stick.

phoenix 10.23.2009 08:10 AM

rae sounds like fae to me
