Blonde Redhead
Could you who like Blonde Redhead suggest an album or two that would be good for a new listener to get aquainted with?
Amaranth:p |
Hey....I'd go with Fake Can Be Just As Good or Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons....they are all good though.
|
Fake can be just as good. That is a fucking amazing album.

Yeah, it's my favorite. |
I'd recommand all of them, except the last two, they are a bit boring. Yesterday I was listening to In An Expression Of the Inexpressible and thought what a damn fucking fine indie rock record.
|
Yah, the last one was a tad boring and sedate.. not unlike the later Sea and Cake post Biz.

Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons*

I agree. I loved the production on their latest, although I didn't think the new songs translated very well live. |
Yeah, Misery Is A Butterfly is produced really nicely (and it's a damn good album), but I agree that the songs were lacking a little live.
|
everybody thanks vern from unwound for his participation in "Fake can be..."..i guess that one is still the best they did,but i love them all,actually...last tour was not so good, indeed, but the production is great on the last record.

Beware a word like boring unless it's one you would use yourself to describe music, if only because it's essentially meaningless, albeit a fair opinion. Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons is probably the one I'd recommend, but I also really liked Misery is a Butterfly. Everybody used to complain that their older albums were too much like Sonic Youth, so if that's what you're looking for you might like those better (I don't necessarily agree, but they have gotten quieter, slower, a little darker, and whatever else makes a band boring on their later albums)...

The best album in my opinion is La Mia Vita Violenta it beats oout fake can be just as good and misery is a butterfly. Melody for certain damged lemons is good too, in fact they are all good, I think La Mia Vita Violenta is the better.
|
thank you everyone for your comments! you are very helpful
|
I dunno. I like Misery is a Butterfly, Self-titled, and Melody For Certain... About equally.
|
MISERY IS A BUTTERFLY to me is pure genius, a fucking masterpiece. I'd go with that. I wanna buy that and give it to a girl I used to like a lot.
|
they are all great and i love misery is a butterfly-- mellow yes, boring no way!
HOWEVER as an intro though i'd pick up the double vinyl offered by smellslikerecords which contains both the s/t release + la mia vita violenta. can't beat that for $14. |
I would recommend the S/T, though all their albums are equally easy to get acquainted with. You might have to order the s/t and La Mia Vita Violenta from the Smells Like Records or amazon.com, they are nearly impossible to find in stores.

Melody of certain damaged lemons and Misery is a butterfly
|
I think Misersy is a Butterfly is pretty perfect as a record and performed live.

Meh, I think it's a good album, but I wouldn't call it perfect. I think it gets somewhat redundant and sounds a bit samey at times. I had an issue with their live show because they were using minimal instrumentation to perform these songs with grand, luscious arrangements. Drums, a guitar, and a bass/keyboards. I thought it came off as being really flat. But once they jumped into one of their older tunes, they just rocked. |
