Crisp manufacturers.
Much crisp discussion going on at the moment. But who makes the finest?
|
I've always been a Golden Wonder fan, both for the true crisp and the related products such as NikNaks, although Sainsbury's own brand stuff pushes them close. Sainsbuy's own Frazzles are great, by the way.

Pringles are the shit!
Best shape for a chip. |
This is a tough one. I've voted for Kettle because the search is for the superior crisp manufacturer, and they do make the best crisp, even if it is overpriced and probably classifiable as a luxury item.
For day to day use, I have little choice but to go for Walkers, as they are the most widely available, and they make Square Crisps. However, if we are going to include non-crisp snacks in the discussion (in which case the thread is mis-titled - an error I would not have expected from such a pedant as Mr Priest), then Golden Wonder start catching up again through the aforementioned NikNaks and, my favourites, Wheat Crunchies. I would have liked to have agreed with Tokolosh, but the high monosodium glutamate content of Pringles means that they leave an unpleasant aftertaste. |
I've never been fully convinced by Pringles. Or those chocolate things that are shaped like Pringles.
|
It used to be all Golden Wonder up north until I was about twelve, I think. Then bloody Walkers came in changed the colour of cheese and onion to blue. Cheese and onion always used to come in green packets.
|
AAhh, Wheat Crunchies.
I think Pringles are overrated and overpriced. |
The others in the poll might be better than pringles, but we don't have them here except for smiths which I find tasteless.

More to the point, what are Tayto? They sound like a Japanese toy manufacturer
|
Tayto are a Northern Irish company who make cheap stuff, but also recently acquired part of the Golden Wonder range.
Smiths are now owned by Walkers, of course, whereas Benson's simply collapsed. |
so is this just crisps? or can we include niknaks and other corn based snacks? if so i fear we are opening a whole new argument. i dont eat crisps anymore, i used to love them but have gone right off. every flavour was nice and i did like the sea salt and cracked black pepper type too. never was a fan of pringles though for some reason, or dorrito's.
also, as testament to how clean my living is, i have not eaten a chocolate bar or any other choccy type thing in over 10 years. |
walkers walkers walkers, it has to be walkers, they just have the widest variety, mind you the nearly lost it for me cuz of Gary Lineker

I appreciate the distiction, but for casual purposes this poll can include crisps and all other related snacks. A seperate future poll solely for crisps, or one for maize-based snacks, and indeed one for 10p snacks (eg the mighty Space Raider) is not out of the question. Space Raiders, in fact, hold a special place in my heart, and probably deserve a poll to themselves. Quote:
Tara Palmer-whatsername was the final straw. |
space raiders are good. for those people who like to strike a healthy figure then snack a jacks are always good. especially bar b q and salt and vinniger flavours. the salt ones knock yer head off.

Where the fuck are Pringles?
By the way, look at this shit, I'm being patriotic today: ![]() Imagine you had something like "British chips" there in UK. |

i can't vote, because i'm not familiar with any of these except for smiths, but i thought i'll add two observations about uk crisps: 1. i've never understood how salt and vinegar can be (one of?) the most popular crisps flavours in the uk... to me that's really a horrible combination. 2. how many of you eat crisp sandwiches? that's even a stranger combination. i couldn't believe it the first time i saw it! :D |

The only thing better than a crisp sandwich is a chip sandwich!!! |
chip butty! with salt and vinegar.
