Recommend me some rocks.

I'm so effing tired of sand I can't stand it. White sand, brown sand, it's all the same. I understand there is more variety with rocks, and more substance and structure. I already picked up some granite this summer...I actually dug it. Willing to sample more, but I need ideas.

Remember when you were calling threads boring?

Daycare Nation 08.03.2006 07:52 PM

No, i like threads...You can weave them into garments.

schizophrenicroom 08.03.2006 08:20 PM

oh man, SEDIMENTARY rocks. i love them.

Daycare Nation 08.03.2006 08:21 PM

Must check those out. Describe.

schizophrenicroom 08.03.2006 08:26 PM

they're formed over millions of years by layers and layers of natural gas, rock, etc, that press down on eachother and all of the pressure makes it compact into a pretty rock.

Daycare Nation 08.03.2006 08:27 PM

sweet!

schizophrenicroom 08.03.2006 08:29 PM

Get some shale. Or some omanyte. Very beautiful stone. Lapas is always pretty.

Some flint...crystal...and something else....arrowheads I've found recently here in central Colorado....I just took these photos for this thread...

I love rocks, they are my friends...and I wish I had all my arrowheads with me, I have some incredible specimens...cool rocks !! 2 different shots of the same arrowheads....

Did anyone mention hematite yet?

That's the only one that even interests me really, but it's not a gemstone, it's iron oxide. ...like those shiny silver & white gold metals too.

As for rocks, I like turquoise a little...native american silver jewelry & so forth. On the precious side, sapphires (next to silver or white gold) are nice. I don't care for the bling like diamonds at all...too fucking tacky.

I suspect you're already familiar with the following...

You rock!

I have quite a nice collection of geological specimens, all ordered and catalogued, both found and purchased, which I would be more than happy to put online if it wasn't for the fact that you'd would probably be bored in no time.

Hunting for trilobite fossils is a favourite thing and any kind of sedimentary rock is fascinating, quite fascinating.

My 'O' Level geology tutor was a top man, and the the one thing that made school a little interesting.
