The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye
|
I was just looking for white nights, for fuck's sake.
|
yes!
and thank you. |
I cried.

I was lucky enough to get to see a screening of this in Minneapolis where both the director of the film and Genesis were in attendance for a Q&A afterward. Great experience. The next day I got to see Genesis perform with Thee Majesty, which was one of the greatest shows I have ever seen. I saw PTV in 1989, but this show blew me away more. Great film. Loved the scene where they were going rapidfire through the record archives and doing the mental "got it got it got it got it got it NEED IT got it got it got it" fanboy thing.

We saw them play here in austin recently and it was so much better than I was expecting.
I'd only see them (albiet a different band) once before for the Towards Thee Infinite Beat tour, bur I have to say this was much better. I missed this docu play at sxsw and have been searching ever since. Today was sheer luck (and some inspiration by Dick Wang) that I'd stumbled upon it. I felt bad about the free watch, so I immediately got the soundtrack. I'm missing so much newer stuff, but I really need to find the time and money to get it. For me, the highlight of this was the all-to-brief, newer, live Roman P. I cherish my TOPY#23 12". |
yr in Austin now? We should hang out
I was there last wknd Might be there in December |
Yep. Been here for two years. I know I told you, and pretty sure I gave you my once-upon-a-time cell number.
If you remember, let me know. I'll buy you a tasty beverage. |
i watched it last night.
i loved the record collection browsing too, the scene where they wear the same 60s mini dresses and have bandages on their faces. Genesis is a great story teller! very natural, sweet, intelligent. you couldnt help, but hugging their story. |
I'm so glad you watched it, nef!
Clone: what albums are you missing? |
Went to watch this at the BFI last spring. I too enjoyed the record archives scene a lot. I don't know what I'd do to open all those boxes!
Thanks for posting it. must spread etc... |

Yeah the "history of industrial music" made me feel warm all over. I really liked his voodoo wall-hangings as well, as it nearly matches my tattoo. I heard that he lost quite a bit of stuff that was never returned when his house in the UK was raided.
I truly love this man, and the laser-beam self-honesty that he runs his life by. There is no hidden agenda with those who wear their hearts (and their art) on their sleeves. Funny story unmentioned in the movie: he got the money for the tits from an insurance settlement against Rick Rubin after the fire that burned-out Love & Rockets stuff during the Sweet F.A. album's recording session. Daniel Ash's burned guitar graces the album cover. If I recall correctly, Gen's arm got pretty messed up. |
I also like the way he explained their body modifications as a continuation of the Burroughs-Gysin cut-up techniques, that he also applies to his music.

you must spread some reputation around before you give it to Genteel Death again |

More succincty, how about I take a NON-CRAPPY photo, of my albums displayed, allow you time to compare, and on the off chance that I possess something you do not (possible, if not improbable)....and I SEND THEM TO YOU.
Jack the T.A.B. - double Lp? Or are there 4...it's been awhile since I've cracked the seal.. |
My good camera has dead battery packs. I will gladly take you up on this. And no, I do not have the Jack The Tab 2xLP.
|
It's a shame that you did not include photos of your digital stuff....
