Anyone into Pulp? Not that much into the whole Britpop thing but I love Pulp! Long live the great Jarvis Cocker! What do you guys think?

Whoever voted no, DIE. Go on, you fucking waste of space.

I said awesome because I think they are way more awesome than crap, but I don't think they will ever be one of my fave bands...
Also I got the Jarvis Cocker album the other day, which I like, but a few of the songs on there are real misses (I would give names and such but I don't know the CD well enough yet)

one of the worst bands that ever existed apart from maybe small parts of certain songs. generally speaking fucking guff.

I'm not a Pulp fan, but I've seen Jarvis doing other things on tv (like reviews, and he was a judge on the RIBA Sterling prize one year) and he always seems to give a good account of himself.

Washing Machine, glad you like The Beatles though.

On the subject of Brit-pop, I recently read that Liam Gallagher of Oasis actually thought This is Spinal Tap was a documentary of a real band.

Haha yeah. Obviously Jarvis got his whole 'British Observer' thing from the stuff that Paul McCartney and Ray Davies were doing in the 60's (i suppose Blur did too, but that is one band I don't have very much time for). Thats probebly why I like Pulp. You're never quite sure if they had a contempt or a fondness for the 'Britishness' that ran through their songs. I'm not really sure people from outside Britain can appreciate our mixed feelings towards the 'Daily Mail reading, Football watching, Umbrella carrying' everyman that exists in almost every part of our country, lurking behind the curtain carrying out his 'Neighbourhood Watch' obligations while the years slowly pass him by....Dear God thats depressing, need some American music to cheer me up!

You expressed a pleasing valuation in a few compressed words rather well there.
I love those lads from The Kinks also...early and mid...State of Confusion and Word of Mouth (save for "Do it Again") seems a tad bland by comparison. 1979's Low Budget and the corresponding One for the Road live tour are still good as are the other live recordings. These are all just notes to clarify myself before making a statement like, "The Kinks rule."

i have respect big time for jarvis but was never a huge lover of pulp. relaxed muscle was just shit but that was the point but his new album from the tracks ive heard is pretty good.

"This is hardcore" is about the most erotic, sexiest and most depressing album of all time. LOVE IT!!!

Ah, it's nice to see some love for this is hardcore... I know a lot of people who hate that album. We Love Life was also greatness.

This is Hardcore (the single) was amazing, and it was great watching Jarvis singing about porn on top of the pops.

I shared a house with a Pulp fan once. He had everything they had released. My God, their early records were bad.
