And if by Awful, Awful band you mean they were well liked by Sun Ra's Arkestra...than yes...they are pretty awful.

Next time SY is playing the same old set for a whole tour in shitty club after shitty club...imagine what it would be like if SY played a completely different show night after night for twice as long in a packed energetic Stadium/Arena...then and only then will you realise how shitty SY is compared to the real deal...

First of all. Phish don't jam, they improvise. Do you know how sonic youth writes music? THEY IMPROVISE. (And kind of poorly at that).

Second of all Phish is a compositionally based improv band. Trey Anastasio has been studying atonal composition since he was about 14 years old. His compositions are intense, inspirational, with an incredible wit and sense of humor about them...some of the lyrics seem inane and slightly arcane, but I find them to be some of the most comforting, uplifting and literary lyrics in all of rock music.

Sure you have a mental block against Phish because you hate HIPPIES (most of Phish's fans weren't "hippies" they were college aged YUPPIES whom you probably hate too), and it's not "cool" to like them... but your attitude of ultra hip holier than thou aloofness is what hurts me deep inside.

I have a soul, and my love of phish is testament to that.

It is rare at a phish show that you will see a "funk solo" and I have never heard a single member of the band utter the term "dude" (a term that I HAVE heard your beloved Lee and Thurston utter many more times before).

Perhaps before you go on some kind of anti-anything rant you should buy a clue about what you are ranting against instead of spouting off a bunch of stereotypically prejudiced bullshit.
