Is Trump really a serious contender for the Republican nomination?
Or are the UK media just concentrating on him because we've heard of him and he makes good headlines?
The thought of him as US president is pretty scary. Could it happen? |
I think he's got serious chances to become a republican candidate for the big elections. But I don't believe that the world has become such a dump that he would actually become the president.
|
No.
|
Well he's winning the primaries and he's probably less evil than cruz and less in the pocket of corporate psychos than rubio.
|
I watch BBC, yall been focusing on Trump because from a European perspective i imagine its hilarious! They can hardly keep a straight face when reporting on Trump

Less Evil than Cruz? How did you figure this out? |
The race for the US presidency has always been a pantomimic bitch fight between corrupt, pathological lying, sociopsychopathic, self-absorbed clowns. They try and buy the presidency with their billions like retards bidding for a piece of trash on eBay. The most tragic thing is, when a decent person makes it as president, he gets assassinated!

The big unanswered question in everyone's mind is: "Are his poll numbers high because he's an amusing celebrity or because people actually intend to vote for him?" Who knows.
Here's what he's got going for him: Trump's voting record as an elected official is perfect. He's never once voted on a bill which anyone can possibly object to, for the simple fact that he's never cast one. He's pure as snow. Plays by his own rules. I can't believe that in 2004, a promising Howard Dean had to close down his campaign because he shouted "Yee haw" when he won a primary, Iowa I think. He was seen as too unstable because of that brief, excited outburst. Trump could yell "Yee haw," cut the head off a Mexican baby, call Oprah an uppity nigger, call the soldiers a bunch of pussies, and still have a political life. All bets are off. And I thought the mold was broken when a presidential election was won by a bi-racial first-term senator with a middle name resembling Iraq's former leader. Child's play. We're deep into uncharted territory. No one has any idea what's going on. Enjoy the ride. |

I agree in general with your points, evollove. One thing to keep in mind--the votes he's getting now are not in the general election but in the Republican primary, which, as the party goes even further toward the right edge of the flat earth, is increasingly extreme, and he's not getting all GOP votes. His opposition is fragmented, with no one person to rally behind. So I wouldn't say--at least right now--that we are seeing the rise of a latter day Hitler. And while a lot of his supporters are indeed mindless sheep, I wouldn't say they all are. He's tapping into a vein of frustration that's real, whether one agrees with it or not. And I have to wonder how solid some of his support is--anecdotal, I know, but I've lost track of how many interviews I've heard on NPR and elsewhere where people say they can't condone everything he says/all of his views/how he insults people but that he's voicing some of their concerns. But a few days ago I heard an interview on NPR with one of the GOP's big money contributors right after the South Carolina primary. The guy had backed Jeb Bush and was pissed off over how badly he thought Bush's campaign was run. He was looking to support one of Trump's opponents and hadn't decided which one yet but he was very, very definitely anti-Trump--which plays into my theory that if Trump gets even close to being the GOP nominee, he won't live to run. The megamoney behind the GOP knows that the chances of Trump winning the general election are slim and none. More to the point, he's a loose cannon they can't control. But yeah, it's been a wild ride, and it doesn't look to be ending anytime soon. |

I get the general frustration. People seem to feel their lives aren't going as well as they want them to go. What confuses me is why Bernie pointing out the facts and causes of economic disparity is seen as unelectable stuff, but Trump laying the blame on immigrants or the "government" or whatever is political fuel. I really don't see why Bernie championing Main St over Wall St can't be made attractive to average, everyday working class people who might often vote Republican but aren't staunch ideologues. Plummer Joe should be all about Bernie, right? |

NPR recently did some analysis of this. Inside the hall with the live audience - his cheer was hardly audible over the roar of the supporters. But media had a direct feed from his microphone and his cheer was blown out of all reason. This is how the American corporate media (including NPR) works. Trump will be the Rethuglican candidiate and a perfect candidate he is. He has imported hundreds of foreign workers to replace US workers. He has tried to use eminent domain to move private owners off their properties he wants. His is a hawk for Israel. He is pro torture. People love him because he says what he thinks. He also answers the question that most of Americans wonder, why can't we secure our border, and yes, it does matter. There is this whole industry of legitmating lawlessness. NPR is on cutting edge. Last night they had a story on this horrible lisping "artist" whose schtick is to take surveillance photos of people at night through their wndows when they don't know about it. I can't figure out who told all these lisping people to go into a career in radio. You can't speak correctly, so a career where people are forced to listen to your lisp makes sense. |

Not as funny as this ^, but I just heard Chris Christie endorses Donald Trump.
I love primary season. Beat the shit out of an opponent, then endorse them as the strong, sensible candidate. |

By reading the news for the last couple of years. Trump is a narcissistic buffoon but has no serious plans whatsoever, he'll say anything to get a reaction and I think there's a good probability he'll undermine his own campaign sooner or later. Cruz is smarter and an ideologically driven extremist, and Rubio is backed by Paul Singer and I think the Koch brothers. If you don't know who they are look them up. |

Interesting article for those that see Trump and his campaign as a joke. |
I didn't read the article, give me a synopsis because i can't see this as anything but a joke?
|
It's saying what is happening with Trump in the States now is what happened in Italy prior to Berlusconi gaining office (i.e. a buffoonish showman from the business sector who everyone that was a joke but ended up getting elected and running the country into the ground).
But also, what is happening now with Trump is the same thing that happened in the media (at least in the UK) with Bush and Sarah Palin. |
An Italian comparing Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi to Donald Trump. Saying that when Berlusconi ran for Prime Minister many dismissed his run as a joke. Then he won. He too was called a misogynist, incredibly wealthy. Him getting into the politically arena was looked at as being absurd, but when he won he destroyed Italy's economy and his government was run by criminals says the writer.
|
But seriously, do any of you guys feel excited by the prospect of Bernie becoming president?
|
I don't know if Sanders will truthfully be able to achieve the big ideas he wants to achieve, but I'm sure not excited by Hillary Clinton, and frankly my big turn off to her is we don't live in a damn Monarchy, just because your a Clinton, or a Bush, doesn't mean you're owed the presidency.

The partisans seized Mussolini and Petacci. Fearing that the Nazis would again try to liberate the dictator, the partisans hid the pair in a remote farmhouse for the night. The following day, Mussolini and Petacci were removed from the house and driven to the small village of Giulino di Mezzegra on the shores of Lake Como. They were ordered to stand in front of a stone wall at the entrance to Villa Belmonte where both were executed by machine gun fire. The identity of the triggerman remains a point of contention, but it was likely communist partisan commander Walter Audisio.
There’s no uncertainty, however, about what happened to Mussolini’s body in the hours after his execution. In the pre-dawn hours of April 29 the corpses of Mussolini, Petacci and 14 fellow fascists were placed in a truck and dumped like garbage in Milan’s Piazzale Loreto, a deeply symbolic public square for the anti-fascist forces. There, eight months earlier, fascists acting under orders from Hitler’s SS publicly displayed the bodies of 15 executed partisans. After Mussolini’s arrest in July 1943, jubilant crowds mutilated images of the dictator. Now, as the sun rose on the “Square of the Fifteen Martyrs,” residents of Milan had the chance to do the same thing, only this time for real. They hurled invectives and vegetables at the dictator’s corpse before kicking, beating and spitting upon it. One woman, deciding Mussolini wasn’t dead enough for her, emptied a pistol into the dictator’s body and shouted, “Five shots for my five assassinated sons!” The crowd then strung the bodies of Mussolini, Petacci and other fascists by their feet from the girders of a gasoline station in a corner of the square. |

Inevitability doesn't mean much when you meet up with an assassin's bullet. I'm not saying I want that, even for a piece of shit like Trump. But if he keeps steamrolling his competitors in the primaries, the big $ boys behind the GOP won't hesitate to have him killed. |

Also even if Trump wins the primaries it's far from a given he'll win the election.

That's why I said if he keeps steamrolling his opponents. There are obviously a lot more primaries before things come to a head. I agree about media hyperbole. Every time I think the media can't sink any lower in their empty-headed, sensationalistic coverage of politics, they manage to hit a new low. |
Its funny the media haven't asked Trump a single legit question! Not even once!

The vice chairman of the DNC, Tulsi Gabbard, just resigned because she supports Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton.
|
Quote:
Members of the DNC are required to be neutral in the primary season. Then again, Debbie Wasserman Schultz should resign as well because EVERYBODY knows she supports Hillary. Anyway, how about this: Trump is well on his way to the 1,237 delegates he needs to be GOP nominee "Something cataclysmic is going to have to happen — and soon, such as on Tuesday — to keep Trump from exceeding or being very close to the 1,237 delegates he needs to be the Republican Party’s nominee when the primaries end June 7." |

That would be a start, I guess. :D You know what, fuck it, at this point I want Trump to be the nominee and that sack-o-shit Christie to be his VP mate, just so Hillary can wipe the fucking floor with them. And if THAT doesn't happen, then the United States has no possible redemption, ever. |
Another day, another prayer for any sort of apocalypse.

She didn't resign because she supports Bernie, she resigned because she thought it was more important for her to publicly declare her support for Bernie than keep quiet. |
